Fabulous Freeware Apps' For Windows

Post by Dwighty » Sat Aug 27, 2011 10:03 am

I love freeware, I really really really love it.

Some freeware should come with a health warning though, I should know, some of it has driven me insane. Am I alone in experiencing that feeling of dread? That feeling you get when you install some obscure freeware utility on your system and it ends up breaking your system! Well, here it stops. No more heart attacks. No more punching computers in disgust. No more head butting walls.

From here on in we will make a scruffy, not very organised list covering.....

1. The well known, proven freeware that many of us may know or not know about.

2. The not as well known freeware out there that just wants be noticed and loved and is known to be good.

......freeware apps' ranging from security, antivirus and windows utility apps' to music, video, imaging and gaming apps'. If it's for windows, and it's free, and it doesn't blow your computer up, then the thread needs to know.

Feel free to post your experiences of any freeware app' you have used ' which you think is good enough to deserve a mention. State what it does, your experience of it, what operating system it is for, and with a link if possible. Fanks.

I'll probably start editing this post into some sort of catagories if there is enough community recommendations. If not and it's just me talking to myself, well, I do talk to myself anyway, I may just carry on and do it for the fun of it anyway. :P

*Gulp*

Me first.

The above is firewall, antivirus and malware detection in one package. I read somewhere it was light on resources so I binned AVG etc... and installed this instead. I haven't noticed my system going any slower compared to what I was using before, so that's good. It's full freeware, no adverts, and the virus/malware definition is updated regulary. Quality freeware if you ask me. It's for Windows XP, Vista and 7. What I also like is, if for some reason you don't want to install their full protection package (because you're happy with your current firewall for example) then you can download and use the antivirus on it's own.

They sell 'Pro' versions but honestly, take my word for it, and the word of multiple PC reviews, the free version is just as good as the 'pro' version, if not better, because it's free, and we love free. :P

I logged in to delete the thread as you were posting. I can't do it now. If you could delete the thread I'll let you be my new best friend. At the time I thought the thread be good idea but I've come to the conclusion it's a *** idea, and to be quite honest with you I'm way too lazy to maintain it. I can't even maintain myself properly. The last time I had access to a clean pair of socks was about a month ago. Honestly, if you could somehow cyber smell my feet you'd faint.
