My friend has a pretty nice gaming PC that runs GTA IV on Max and he says that Minecraft still lags for him.

Unless EVERY entity in the game is functioning per second (i doubt it)

1. You can never be sure if he is lying about GTA IV on max,
2. If minecraft lags for him, he must be lying about the GTA IV Max settings.

Or

Try force updating it, then create a new world and see if that lags. If it does, you could try to install the latest of java. If none of this helps, there are some trust issues going on.

He is definitely lying to you. Also, minecraft is CPU intensive, meaning that even if you don't have a graphics card, minecraft should work at about the same speed as with one.

He might have a really bad CPU probably and is lying about the GTA IV part.

He doesn't have a good CPU. He runs GTA on Max graphics wise (not entity wise) and also is an intel (some old generation type, on desktop)

Well, no one said it has a good frame rate  or how many speedhacks he has in place, you can actually play GTA 4 on an Intel HD Graphics 3000 chip if you apply all the speedhacks available + low-medium settings, I got about 20 FPS with it (more than enough for me)

Maybe you might want to look for speedhacks for minecraft? (like moving around shaders or a commandline.txt etc)

Also, you could try and use RAMdisk (free) to run minecraft off it. On my intel pentium laptop, I normally run MC at around 15fps, but when I use ramdisk, I can run it on around 30fps with no problems :D

I'm using a Chromebook Pixel with chrome OS and Debian. So the only thing I like playing on this thing is Happy Wheels. Minecraft isn't supported :(
