iTunes on Ubuntu

Post by SMOKE » Mon Apr 08, 2013 11:58 pm

Ive been trying to get iTunes on my pc, Ive tried wine, but when it gets done installing, it says I need to reinstall it.
Even when I reinstall it, it says the same thing.
Another question is are there scripts that can be run in linux to add / remove songs from my iPod?

PlayOnLinux doesn't have a configuration for iTunes? I am pretty sure there is a linux program for it, iPods also use MTP (the same thing the Vita, all cameras and other tightly locked down devices use)

Ive tried PlayOnLinux, but when I search iTunes, nothing shows up.
Is there a way to manually install iTunes from its exe?

In POL, have you checked the experimental scripts?

First up, iPhones suck with linux, but is getting better. Check out, and make sure you have installed, http://www.libimobiledevice.org/

If your ipod can be used as such, I would recommend Banshee, it is my favorite mp3 manager.

Also, check out Rockbox. If your's is a supported device, I would much recommend. It has a video player, even on ipod's that can't play video, Doom, GBC emu, and plays many more formats then an ipod can with apples firmware.

And even with the latest update, itunes isn't supported under PlayonLinux. However, run:

Code: Select all

wget -q "http://deb.playonlinux.com/public.gpg" -O- | sudo apt-key add -
sudo wget http://deb.playonlinux.com/playonlinux_precise.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/playonlinux.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install playonlinux
to always have the most updated PlayonLInux.

If you want to know how good a program runs under wine, and how to best set it up, search $programname + winehq. WineHQ is the main site of Wine, and it has a program compat section. Searching "iTunes WineHQ" shows this http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=1347. Click on a version you want to install, and follow any instructions that are there. From what I have read, it "does" work, at least as of update 10.1, but it is glitchy.

If you are still having trouble, I will check it out, see if I can get it working.
