[Android] Delete Google Account, Stock Reset?

Post by waratte » Tue Dec 13, 2011 6:59 am

Hello all,

I've come here to ask a question.

In an effort to cleanse my Android phone of it's impurities, I have decided that the first step to do was to remove my Google account that's "integrated" into my phone. At first, I tried to do this but, my phone wants me to reconsider doing this by a "If you do this, I'll do this in spite of that" situation where it'll reset itself completely. This is surely not an option for me. So, I need to gain an upper hand by asking you all, how can remove my Google account from my phone without resetting my phone back to stock?

Thanks,

waratte

P.S. Don't tell my Android phone I posted this. ;)

P.P.S Also, while we are on the subject of Android, I want to ask another question.

When creating a new contact, why is it that I can only create under my Google account? This troubles me as I'd prefer my contacts to be only on my phone and it only, not in the hands of Google. If I indeed were to remove my Google account, would I be unable to create another contact again?

Best thing to do :- Create a Dummy google account and use that.

Be sure to export a .csv backup of your contacts first <from google.com/contacts>, or do a contacts backup with mybackuppro link <just in case u lose your contacts>
To make sure google doesnt get the contacts, go to settings, accounts and sync, choose ur current account <with the contacts> and uncheck the Contacts part. then go to google.com/contacts and delete all the contacts from there.

Nah, I'm trying to part my phone from Google completely, so this account needs to be gone. Next after this, I will delete the Google crapps (crappy apps) that came with my phone. Gmail, GTalk, etc...

Also, I'm not really worried about the contacts, I have them written down. What I'm really worried about is all the other stuff that will be wiped when I factory reset my phone. I just need to be able to remove the account without me needing to reset my phone.

Why would I need to reset my phone anyways?

Dude you are making me laugh.
Google=Andorid.
You cant remove your google account from your phone (without resetting). To go to the market and install apps, you MUST have a google account.
And why do you want to remove your google account anyway?

I dont know if this will work, but try this:
Backup all your Apps and Data and System Apps using Titanium Backup PRO. Buy it from the market <too bad u need a google account for that :P)
Next, go to Recovery and reset your phone, or reset it from the "settings". Anyone should do.
Next install Titanium backup again using an APK <google (:P) it> then restore all your apps, data and system apps and system data.
Dunno if this will work though, just a hypothesis.

Oh, that's not a possible route for me. I don't want to buy anything from the market.

I don't even use the market anyways, this isn't a problem for me. :P

I know Android = Google... :|

Though, thanks anyway for being the only one wanting to help. Through stress, I've found a simple way to remove it.

/data/system/accounts.db renamed to accounts.db.bak

Everything has worked fine and I was able to remove my account WITHOUT resetting. :D I hit myself on the head for not finding it earlier. :(

I want to remove it because, I don't feel right with Google holding all my info. :(

Dude, there's still life outside Google. I can still install apps without market, you can download the .apk file. There are also other "markets" besides Google. The one I'm trying now is made by Amazon, they give away free paid apps everyday if I remember correctly.

I've already rooted? :???:

Though, I'm not a typical tech user. I down right hate for all of my devices to be integrated into some kind of Omni-device. I like to have dedicated tech for certain things. For example, I mostly play games on consoles only. I rarely have any games on all my other devices and tech.

So yes, I do use my phone for only:

1. Calling
2. Texting
3. Browsing (The only thing I have internet on at the moment)

I have no use for my phone beyond that, I use my other tech for those things.

Also, thanks again. My phone has been working a bit better now!!

Wait, you just said that your contacts merge with your Google Account? Just go to options and disable it to show Online Contacs(Would give accurate steps If I had my Android right now.) And about your Google Account, I guess you're fed up with notifications, if yes then disable them, or if know you just can unsync your account, no factory reset however...enjoy! :)

Also if possible one can upgrade to ics, which allows easy removal of google accounts without reseting your phone.

You coulda also done "rm /system/app/[insert google app name here].apk"
For example: AccountsAndSyncSettings.apk, Vending.apk...etc.
