Blackberry Playbook

Post by Seaking » Wed May 23, 2012 9:54 am

I just bought my mother a blackberry playbook for Mother's day.
Retail $599 price tag has dropped to $199 for the 16 gb model.

My mother is the sort of person who didn't know what Youtube was until I got her the tablet.
It couldn't have been more perfect.
"You mean its like a computer inside a screen?!" "yeah, mom, that."

It has good specs if you want a fast seamless web browsing experience.
The price tag is unrivaled (Until Nexus Tablet is released, which I'll get for myself).
My friend has a Galaxy Tab and the web browsing on it seemed slow and clogged.

Just a heads up for those of you wanting an honest tablet opinion.

Pros-
Good hardware.
Slick screen.
Good battery life.
1080p video out via hdmi.
Cheap accessories such as an attachable keyboard.
Seamless experience with software.
PRICE.

Cons-
Market is devoid of most Android apps.
Current firmware has yet to be jailbroken.
Power button on top sucks eggs. Really small, no tactile feedback.
Market is devoid of most things.

I have been looking to get a tablet and this seems like a good option
if it ever gets a jailbreak/root or whatever things are called it seems like the only con would be the power button

The team that jailbroke it said they didn't have time to keep up with RIM. You think Sony takes security too far? That's all RIM cares about. The team gave out their code before they left though. They just need another exploit at this point.

I would better choose Samsung Galaxy Tab 2(7"). Its around $300, but much better than blackberry playbook. It has Android 4.0 ICS(If you root it you have unlimited of possibilities!), Amoled Screen, Descent 3MP rear and front VGA camera, 1GHz Dual-core processor and Expandable memory! ;)

Or if you can wait then soon Google will release there new Nexus(s), and as there is a partnership with Asus, a tegra-3 Nexus tablet can come and rumors says it can be as low as $149!

That's exactly what I'm waiting for myself.
I want that awesome processor and that low price. I think it'll run for $199-$249. Well worth it still.
My girlfriend can't wait so I think ill get her a Tab.

For my mother the Playbook was plenty enough though. Much faster than the Kindle Fire. 5mp back and 3mp front facing cameras. :D now I'm just waiting for a Skype port so I can have a reason to use Skype on my Vita.

Tablets are a blessing for the generation Y people.

For the last few years I've tried to get my mom to use a computer. She's turning 60 this month. A few years back I got her a laptop but she simply used it to check email. Anything more was out of her comfort zone. A few months ago I snagged a used iPad 2 on CL for cheap and gave it to my mom. I even created a FB account for her to help keep up with friends and family. After setting up the iPad, I told and showed her how it worked. After just a few HOURS, she was doing a million more things then what she was doing on her laptop, LoL! She loves her iPad and uses it everyday for almost everything!!
