This is absolutely amazing to see and iPhone or android phone running one of my favorite games. But what does this say about our current-gen handheld gaming?

That it needs at least 5 times more processing power to run smoothly on smartphone than it needed on console released more than decade ago

And 50 times the battery size, with coolant to match. (The Vita's 2ghz cpu would melt if it weren't underclocked, after all.)

In all actuality, multiple ps2 games are being released to the market ru nuning full emulation. Its a matter of time till we see a real ps2 emu on the market. It may be a while till the right Dec approaches the scene but I would be willing to pay $20 for a real emu. Rockstar already has the people on staff that can accomplish this then why cant it be done else ware?

I highly doubt that they are fully emulated. Because R* has source code of all of their games they can just change the code a little bit and then recompile it, game will then run native ARM code and doesn't have to emulate another machine.

This. I agree. By them having their game run native on whatever system (in this case android), it doesn't have to translate functions and stuff from PS2 hardware to android (what Emulation is), thus meaning the code gets run faster, and all calls are directly going through android's API and the hardware that is there. (Besides, imagine trying to emulate the EE and GS core on a smartphone, when they are just starting to perfect it soon on desktop computers, seeing as how the Android architecture is, although it is definitely improving, would be very troublesome to accomplish)
Having a PS2 emulator on the PSVita would be a better candidate because Sony already has all documentation and source for the PS2 Architecture, and thus can EASILY make the vita translate the EE and GS calls to vita formatted ones, giving the performance of it being native to the vita.
