Re: [Tutorials] PS2 Thread: Softmod, game backups, homebrew,

Thanks for the reply! GSModeSelector is useless for me. I have already burnt the PS2 Linux Live DVD v3 to a DVD+R, but I haven't tested it yet.
I only have three questions for now.
1)Can I remove the uLaunchELF disc after launching homebrew? Is it completely safe? (My friend has a PS2 Slim, if that matters)
2)Any more homebrew apps that aren't emulators or games?
3)FreeMCBoot says that it doesn't work properly with a modchip. Is that true? And why?

Thanks again for your help.

1.) Yes, you can remove the disc after launching the homebrew, as the PS2 isn't reading off of the disc anymore.

2.) Kernelloader is the homebrew that allows you to load Linux so that's pretty cool that you can run an OS on your PS2, you probably know about SMS cause you mentioned it in your last post. PS2ESDL is like Open PS2 Loader except it only loads from USB and also loads a bit faster. Hmm, there is a bunch of different emulators also, such as PS2PSXe which lets you play PS1 games off of USB, Network, and HDD. That's pretty much it, what more could you want?

3.) I'm not entirely sure because I have no experience with modchips but I have no idea why it wouldn't work. You could research more on the web if you really want to find out.

I'm going to do tutorials for Open PS2 Loader, PS2PSXe, hopefully Linux, and also how to use ESR so check back if you need any help on these. :)

Please do! I have FMCB on my PS2 and haven't got a clue on how run backups. Also, Linux on the PS2?! Awesome! ;)

you can use ESR (for DVD backups) or Open PS2 Loader (for USB or SMB backups)
I'm gonna make a guide on my site one day (when I manage to get laziness out of my body)

Pretty sure I have the ESR.elf but didn't have a clue what it was. I will most likely try Open PS2 Loader though because storing games on a HDD is far better than having to always swap discs.

And thanks for the Linux link. Going to give this a try ASAP!

you don't need to swap disc with esr, all you have to do is patch the iso with esr disc patcher, then burn it on a dvd and then launch esr.elf (if you put esr on mc0:/boot/boot.elf it will auto load)

Will the hack work with 007 and this memory card: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Sony-PS2-Playsta ... 500wt_1157

Image

My friend has the 007 game all I need is a memory card but it seems sketchy, has the words "MAGICGATE" on it.
