The Wii doesn't like HD videos though. I'm loading it from USB HDD.
I did not know that.

However, the Video_TS files are bloody huge. I think I would just convert to a more portable format, or at least one that can fit on my SD cards. I have a bunch of 2gb, and only 1 8gb one.

That's true but I backup my favorite DVDs and just keep the files on my HDD. You can still access all the special features as well. But like you said, you'll have huge files. A DVD backup is generally 4.36GB (compressed to DVD5 that is). No compression would be larger of course. I also have an external DVD Drive USB into my Wii so I can still watch DVDs without using the Wii's drive. I say that cause you have to still select the video_ts file even from the disc. That's why WiiMC plays that file type. Here's another video. I show running a burned DVDr game backup using the USB Drive and ULoader but I also show WiiMC playing a burned DVD using this method. http://youtube.com/watch?v=w6Ut7rgPZfo

I actually just had to deal with getting video's on the Wii for my step-dad. I had to settle on streaming, due to the small sd card limit. So I set up a Lubutu system, installed an FTP server, and used WiiMC to connect. I have about 50gb of movies/shows/music video's ready to stream any time. The movies are mostly between 500mb to 900mb and the TV shows are between 50mb and 400mb, depending on what was the best encoder I knew off at the time and the time length.

I think this is problable the best way to get video onto the wii, if you have a nice enough router. I set up video to be the top priority when routing, and can get about 10mbs throughput. This is more then enough for any video's that the wii would be able to play without stuttering anyways.

Why not just connect a HDD with all that on it to use? Unless its in HD format and your converting it live? Also the SD slot supports up to 32gb depending on what system version you have. I believe 4.0 and above. Other options are to burn them as Data discs and run them on the Wii. Each to their own I guess. :)

The wii just doesn't push enough power to run my only HDD. It will reset every few min causing the movie to crash. As for the SD, I meant because I only have small SD cards. Burning them would work, but this way I can have them all in one place that is accessable from many things. Plus I think I may set up an Ownclould server to feed them over via a browser too.

Uhmm your power problem isn't that kind of problematic. I guess you're using a 2,5 or 1,8 inch hdd without the possibility to hook up an ac adapter.
So here is a solution:
Your Wii has two usb ports, use them.

or buy it

I actually have 2 of those cables, 1 cheap one and 1 expensive one, and it still doesn't work. Don't know why. I assumed it was because the 2 usb's are running from the same host, and thus share power.

OK

Uhm how about you:
A try a 3,5 inch hdd which has an external power supply
or
B use that USB Y kabel (the cheap one) splice the power lines from the data way (so that there is no power flowing into the wii and the risk of different potential is smaller), and hook the power way to a source you know that has enough juice for the small hdd.
So only the data lines are connected to the wii, and the powerlines are hooked to a device which provides the juice. And those both devices (wii and power provider for the hdd) should be hooked to the same power distributor (wall plug etc...) to avoid having two different phases used. :!:
Just a suggestion.
Well could you post a picture of your hdd and post the brand of it (not the hdd inside, but the cradle)?

Eh, it is just a cheap cradle I got online. This one actually http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009ZX ... nactsho-20

The Y cable thing might be a cool idea though.

Though, honestly, they way I have it set up does well enough for me. Even more so because I can also have XBMC connect to it from my android devices, ect.
