Emulators on the OUYA, what do you think?

Post by wraddek » Sat Mar 09, 2013 5:29 am

I would like to know anyone and everyone's thoughts on the emulation power of the new android console the OUYA. I'm pretty sure there's already a N64 emulator and a ps1 emulator in the works (or working already). So I would imagine that it should also be able to run nes, snes and gba. So... does anyone think that NDS will be playable, or even (although unlikely) gamecube??? TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS :)

NDS will suck, cause no touchpanel. It will be slow too.
Gamecube will not work.

N64 should be ok.

Emulation power partly depends on the CPU speed, The RAM (?), how well coded the emulator is, etc.

IMO the OUYA will do pretty well with emulation. I think...

-N64 will run full speed
-PS1 full speed
-PS2 probably half speed at least
-NES full speed
-SNES full speed
-GBA full speed
-GameCube maybe a few FPS
-PSP 3/4 speed
-DS full speed, but as snail said, no touchscreen, so it won't work.
-PSP 3000 (03g): 6.61 PRO-C2
-PSP go (05g): 6.61 PRO-C2
-PCH [PS VITA] 1001: OFW 3.XX

I sometimes play DS games on my laptop and it's ok without touchscreen. Plus some DS games don't rely too heavily on touchscreen anyway. So I look forward to and very much hope to see DS emulation on the OUYA in the near future. It could use right analogue stick for a touchscreen arrow and another button to press down on it, similar to a DS emulator on pc. IMO NDS emulation on the OUYA should be awesome if it's full speed. But even if for some reason no DS emulator gets released I would still be very happy with full speed N64, PS1 and GBA.
