With a full keyboard it's capable of emulating amiga pretty well (something you can't do on the GP2X at least not without an USB keyboard or so. Have one on preorder. It's an awesome handheld, the biggest annoyance have been the waiting, but these days they are finally shipping so yay! slap an airway bill on that panda and stuff it in the mailbox. :D

But perhaps it's biggest feature is that it isn't locked down and crippled like pretty much any other handheld on the market. No need for jailbreaking, it just works(tm).

The open pandora was a nice idea when it was introduced, it would have been a nice competitor to the PSP 3000 at the time.
But it got late, and now for 500$... well, you get 2 3DS for that price...
and in 6 months, you'll get a PS Vita and 5 games for that price...

Really, 2 years ago the 500$ price was worth it for that hardware, but today...

it's still a great device, and I assume supporting open source has a price... but 500$ is expensive, and they won't benefit from mass production that could help lowering the costs. Nowadays for that price you get a nice android tablet, which from a developer perspective is probably more interesting...

I would still love to see Wagic running on the pandora :)
If you need US PSN Codes, this technique is what I recommend.

... couldnt you actually "just" make a linux port, that will run on any distro?

It is actually highly probable that the linux port already runs on the pandora. It's just that I wish I had a pandora to confirm it ;)

heard a couple of avid brewers developed their pandora games on beagleboard, it's pretty much the same hardware (without the case, the touchscreen and the keypad++).

it's only $150 too, but it's mostly for hacking and embedded applications. another nice toy.

It was a good idea, but failed pricing as well as failed to hook developers. And definitely for an open source community the Pandora is way more interesting than any closed console (which are all the rest, unfortunately). I'm still waiting for any console vendor to take the path IBM took for personal computers on 1981. Sadly I highly doubt this will ever happen looking at the business results IBM got opening up the original PC... but IMHO those were other times.

PS: PSP cannot run a real Linux (or any modern OS) because it lacks hardware for managing virtual memory.
I wanna lots of mov al,0xb
