lunar 2 for ps1
best rpg of all time
to bad it never gits the port treatment like the first any more
if you can git it for a reasonable price, its a great game
2nd runner up would be threads of fate on ps1
its awesome fun and works great with my ADD

3rd would be iji on pc
it was an interesting game for free

'Wasteland' by EA, on the C64. The setting (post-apocalytpic), the excellent (for it's time) combat system, cool gear 8-)
It had a clever system where it would write back map changes to the game disks rather than keep everything in a huge
save file (this meant you had to make fresh copies of the original disks to competely restart the game).

I have put more hours into that game than into any other game I think. I still play it every now and then through various emus.

For a long time I was hoping for a re-make at some point true to the original, but it will probably never happen due to
licensing issues.

Edit: WHOA, I guess one should never loose hope! PLEASE be as good as the original...

Dragon Quest III (first RPG I beat)
Baldur's Gate II (first game I spend 500+ hours on)
Final Fantasy VI (first game I tried to do low level run with)
Final Fantasy XI (just best MMO hands down even though you are required play it 24/7)
Skyrim ( first time I saw my girlfriend truly enjoy a none MMO RPG)

But if Disagaea counts as RPG.... D4 would trump them all !

I never thought I'd be picking a Vita game for this, but Persona 4 Golden on the Vita. P4 was already one of my favourites on the PS2, but the number of tweaks and additions they made to it for P4G only made it better.

Not sure if it counts as an RPG, but NiER would be mine, for the story and the soundtrack alone.
If that doesn't count, then Final Fantasy IV. One of the first FF's I played, and still love every second I play of it.

Chrono Cross hands down! Bests any other game I've played. The music is sublime, the battle system is perfect and unique and the storyline just blows all others out of the water.
I loved the replayability of the game too as you'd have to play through 3 times to unlock all the characters! the customisation options are fantastic too :D

a very close second would be ffvii, then Eternal Sonata.. the simplistic beauty of that game is phenomenal!

Mine are probably the Harvest Moon series, or the Final Fantasy series...

Both are special in their own ways I can't describe :)

Persona 3 Portable so far, but Persona 4 Golden is slowly catching up. Star wars Kotor 1 and 2 have been some of my long time favourites as well.
