UMD Gen Optimize

Post by 007 » Tue Jan 10, 2012 3:23 am

What are peoples thoughts on using UMD Gen to optimize a ISO (removing pointless to contain firmware updates) If you optimize and it runs should be fine right?

For the most part, there is no reason not to. Plus if you do a dummy search to remove padding, it can be a good alternative for saving space without the lag of making it a CSO, as, depending on the game, this can save upto a few hundred MBs of space.
I optimize+dummy clean every ISO I have, aside from the ones where doing so breaks them. (I know of Disgaea 2, and Class of Heroes breaking from this.)
I found the best pattern was to Optimize, then Dummy Search, then Optimize again.
A useful idea is to make sure you have a backup of the ISO prior to optimizing+dummy cleaning, incase it breaks upon testing (since its more time-consuming to redump or re-NPD a game.)

I used UMDGen to downsize my games by removing content like

Daxter= 1.4gb
After removing other languages and update
Daxter around 700mb
No problems so far

Little Big Planet = 1.3gb (i think)
After removing all videos
Little Big Planet = 200mb
No problems so far

etc.

you get the picture. all remain in iso format. Got all my psp games on my 4gb memory card with room for emulators etc. UMDGen is very useful
for downsizing. Anyone tried DAX format?

How do you know which language is English? Do you just extract the audio from each language until you find one in English and delete the others?

I bucking hate FIXES , patches optimizations and the like, unless we are talking about Japanese games
I prefer original clean untouched ISOs (no CSO either)

So no thanks
