Optimizing ISO images
Is there a down-side to 'optimizing' iso images on the PSP and then running them?

Re: Optimizing ISO images
i'm not positive on this. but i think it would just slow down the game, and make it a bit jaggy at times, more in loading times. Sorry for the bad explenation, i'm horrible at explaining things.

Re: Optimizing ISO images
As the padding is useless data, used to fill up the remaining UMD space, removing it should be fine.
As per making it a cso, however...

CSO's can make some games lag horribly though, like Grand Theft Auto. This is because it has decompress as you're playing before loading completely. ISO's really aren't that bad on space, at most around 2 GBs.jc_gargma wrote:Does this require free space be on the memory card to allow for decompression, and would this decompression affect the lifetime of the memory card the cso is used from?
You can use tools like UMDGen to rip things out of ISO's (music, videos, maps, extras, ect ect) to save space too. For example, when I had a CFW PSP, I made Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (normally 1.2 GBs) an 88 MB game by ripping out the background music, the entire story mode & all cutscenes (making it a light, online-only version).

Re: Optimizing ISO images
Thanks for an actual useful answer. See, I don't want to make many games cso's (lag, and i hear it's bad) but I want to save as much space as I can for iso's!jc_gargma wrote:As the padding is useless data, used to fill up the remaining UMD space, removing it should be fine.

Re: Optimizing ISO images
People have been talking about isos on here on more than one occasion. Linking or telling where to find pirated content is what is not allowed. If you're going to minimod at least do it right.

lol OWNED!!
Re: Optimizing ISO images
It should be fine to "optimise" an ISO as long as that only means removing the padding; although I'm not sure just how much padding PSP games have.
