Backup of game gives "Cannot read source file or disk"

I doubt this has to do with piracy as I own the disk and if anyone questions that I do I will take a picture with timestamp.

Basically I am trying to backup one of my UMD's, but around 1/2 way through it gives me "Cannot read from the source file or disk" as a windows error every time. I check the PSP and it's still in USB mode and the drive on my computer is still working properly.

If you need any more details about this issue please post and ask.

(I've also searched the forums and google for roughly the same error and found nothing about it, I'm thinking the disk might be damaged)

Edit: Upon closer examination it does look like there is a nice scratch on the disk. Will attempt one more time and put it on the shelf, does anyone have any suggestions or experience with making a backup of a scratched disk?

yea sounds like that scratch is the problem or maby the laser on the PSP is dying ?
as for backing up a scratched UMD well do you have any friends with that also have the game ?

Try ripping the UMD on your PSP instead.
UMDumper is what I use.
It has worked for me with some disks that have a decent amount of scratches.
