What happened to .DAX format?

Post by n00neimp0rtant »

I recompressed all of my CSOs to DAX format and every one of them are smaller. So I'm curious: why don't modern CFWs like PRO support DAX rips? Is there a plugin that reenables support? Or is the support there, and I'm just putting them in the wrong folder or something?

Thanks.

I think it just became obsolete. I never used .DAX because I just kept the format my games were dumped to which was 100% of the time .ISO or .CSO. I don't see the point in support for .DAX now.

The DAX format was avaible for the SE and OE firmwares i guess, even later M33 firmwares did not support DAX files anymore.
There is a plugin for supporting DAX files, but i guess it was just for 3.xx/4.xx or 5.xx CFWs.

i think you're talking about the DAX ZISO Loader ;) it was for 1.50

by the way, once i tried compressing a game's ISO to .dax and .jso but it never was smaller than the .cso, probably that's why those format ain't used anymore

ZISO, sounds great

Fact is, neither JSO nor DAX were good enough to be used in future releases of CFWs.

Exactly, because .CSO was always better and more common.
