Recommended to convert to MP4 H264 format for size reasons (as well as not having to transfer multiple files over). Use very high bitrates for less noticeable 8x8 block artifacts.

However UMD videos are actually at a higher resolution (720x480) and shrunk to fit the PSP's 480x272 display. The advantage in this is that compression artifacts are less noticeable (even less noticeable than MP4's that are compressed at high bitrates) This is due to the averaging of pixels that take place when shrink interpolating to the PSP's resolution - 8x8 image chunks are averaged out to the PSP' screen.
