So that means I will just disable CXMB in CFW and their is no need to boot to OFW.
And can I re-enable the CXMB plugin after applying the .ptf theme?

Yes, it's your choice if you want to boot to OFW or disable CXMB then re-enable it, any way to apply a PTF theme will work. ;)

Hmm I installed this on the latest TN-V 8 and I simply can't get the plugin to work.

You need the modified version that comes with the TN-V files.
