About the copyright on version.txt files... I'm not a strong fan of copyright laws but I try to put a limit in what's acceptable or not. These files are a few dozen characters, auto generated by some script and are in no way a product of the human mind. Copyright is here to protect people's intellectual property, I don't see anything "intellectual" in those version.txt files.
