-hi arnold... got some issues on my slick with ur Shell...

1. videos (i.e., mp4, wma) not playing
2. iso/cso games crashes my slick

This is regarding the use of the word SHELL in other PSP related releases.

I know it is impossible to claim the word 'shell', but the specific use of SHELL is upsetting.

I am referring to the use of 'SHELL' in this project http://endlessparadigm.com/forum/showth ... ?tid=27591

The program in that link is not affiliated nor at any point related to SHELL. It is clearly misleading.

If someone could take the initiative to contact the above developers in the link and notify them to change their use of the word SHELL, it would be highly appreciated.

Please respect my use of SHELL. Anything that is a shell can be called a shell but not SHELL.

If people continue to do that, I will discontinue SHELL.

That's all I have to say.

I think there are actually laws in several countries that prevent people from selling for example a car that would be named "car". My understanding is that using a common word describing exactly the same thing as the product, for a brand name, is most likely illegal in many countries.
You can't sell a piece of software and call it "SOFTWARE", but you can call it "Windows".

I mean, from a trademark point of view.

You could have named your Shell "car", but naming it "SHELL" was probably not such a great idea.

As a conclusion, I don't think you can ever trademark the name "SHELL" or claim any kind of property on that name associated to a shell type of software. Please see what happens when Apple tries to claim ownership for the word "appStore" : they lose lots of money in court and their competitors mock them.

That being said, you can probably try to contact the guys and ask them to lowercase their text, but in all honesty, you shouldn't be offended by that.

Personal opinion about your threats of discontinuing for such a trivial matter: please don't be that kind of guy

I am specifically refering to the use of SHELL in the context of that thread.
Clearly it is misleading.
I am also not trying to sue anyone. Just a little ripped off.

Discontinuing SHELL doesn't mean abandoning it and not working on it mind you. It only implies stopping the development of this specific incarnation. Don't put your opinions forward so much.

Arnold, can you make it to run videos in formats like: .pmp, .flv, .wma, .mp4, .avi, .mpg, .wmv ?
+ second question, why I can't stop audio playing?
+ third question, why I psp can't run any videos (I'm talking about .mp4 format, but there is "Video" section in "Media"?

Videos are not supported at the moment but they will be supported in the future.

You can stop or pause audio by pushig your analog stick down and a median player controller will appear. Press the cancel button (default circle) to stop audio or confirm to pause. Press HOME to return to SHELL.

The video tab is there as a placeholder for the time being.

I remember when I first downloaded your SHELL, love it by the way, I thought Arnold's SHELL isn't a very good name, lol. Then I realized you were actually just calling it SHELL. While just calling it SHELL is a bold statement & rightfully so considering all the possibilities, I could kinda see this sorta thing coming. I noticed the Honeycomb shell earlier today & yeah I did check to see if it was a skin or update from you. So I get what you mean about how misleading it could be, but like Wololo was saying, maybe SHELL wasn't the best name choice. Remember, a whole lot of us love your SHELL, no matter what it's called
