Post by Drakon » Thu Mar 17, 2011 8:25 pm

I'm curious about this as well, considering I have my blog. Would be nice to post an article up and just link to the submission post for people who want to download, if that's allowed.

I have a related question:

These two rules seem to contradict each other:
# The homebrew must be entirely new, or a significant update (or mod) of your existing homebrew. We might refuse "updates" or "mods" if we think they do not bring much new features to your homebrew.
and
# You are allowed to submit your homebrew to other sites/competitions as long as you submitted it to the PSP Genesis competition first. If you posted your homebrew on another website before submitting it to this competition, the entry won't be accepted
The first rule says something that was put someplace before here is accepted as long as it has been significantly updated. I'm fairly sure there's already at least one homebrew that I know that has had a binary released publicly before this contest was even announced that has been allowed to stay in the competition. So are we to disregard the second quoted rule, or am I misuderstanding it somehow? If I'm misunderstanding it, could it please be clarified?

The first quote means that even though your homebrew may be one of the few that ran on 1.50 , if you update it very much, you can enter it here.
The second one means that if you made a game called MYHOMEBREW v1.0 and posted it at the QJ boards and then you posted MYHOMEBREWv.10 with the splash screen at the Genesis competition, it will be disregarded...

Askidwai pretty much nailed the answers.

If you want to put something on your own blog, just submit it here first, and *then* put a LINK from your blog to the Submissions Sub-forum post that is your entry. That way everything is within the rules, but you can still put stuff on your own blog - a link to the post. That is what I would recommend to make sure everything is EASILY identifiable as within the rules.

Please, if there are still questions, ask them here and I will answer them. My cable was out last night or I would've answered then. Cable was back up this morning, so, the weekend ought to be fine but if it is out I will go to the local internet cafe just to make sure that a) things are up to date with submissons and b) to answer any questions that have come up on here.

Also, I can generally be found in the official PSP Genesis Compo IRC channel:

irc.hellcat.net #genesis-compo

If I am not talking in there I should be on the server most likely, so to see if I active check #hellcat as well. You can pm me on irc.hellcat.net as well. (This all saying my cable stays up this weekend haha.)

Anyway, things are going well, but we still have a lot of time for submissions, improvements, questions to be answered, etc. Get in touch however you like. If you have a question you want to ask in private, PM me here on /talk.

Regards,

npt

1. Can one person (who enters more than one program of course) win more than one prize? For instance, get the money for both second and third for two different good programs?

2. I see people planning to enter, or entering clones/psuedo sequels to copyrighted work. Realizing using copyrighted sprites/music/characters and trademark names is not okay, what about obvious clones with none of the above?

My primary project is original, though of course has a passing resemblance to other games. (As similar as say, Metal Slug and Contra are to each other.)

I ask because, should I actually finish that I may start on an entry that will likely be a clone of a popular game.

I am pretty sure, it an. But I think the judges will not like this to happen

As long as your pictures, name, music are your own or you have permission (if they are official) they will be allowed.

Of course, you can't create a whole new genre.

Best of luck
