[PROJECT] PowerShell

Post by wassgha » Mon Feb 21, 2011 7:59 pm

Hi!
I begined months ago a project called PowerShell, as you can notice it is a shell but a very powerful one with some functions that no shell has included before.
First of all, this is just a design, all what you are going to see here is not and will not be produced because I don't have a PSP right now.
The shell is a lua/C program composed of a lot of applications. It will deliver a powerful API for developpers to create their apps in addition to the built-in applications wich are (for now) :
  • Applications Store
  • Facebook client
  • Twitter client
  • Music player
  • Online music library client (grooveshark like)
  • Video player
  • Books reader (pdf, doc and others)
  • Online books library client
  • Web browser (different from the Sony's one)
  • E-mail client
  • Some games
  • Update manager
This is a very very big project and this can't be done in lua only, so I'll be using some C programs...
Official website: http://powershell.t15.org/ To Get the test version of the homebrew You Must Be Subscribed to the website
I designed the home screen, and here is the result:

The ideas mentioned above CAN NOT be used in any project not created by me. Please respect this.
Considering the fact that NONE of those ideas are at all UNIQUE at all and that shells are a very historic homebrew, I stand by the proposal that you cannot dictate who can and can not enter what they wish; including those features you have mentioned above. Whilst the user interface is very nice and you hold copyright to those images, you must realize that such a "simple" design, although beautiful, is still "simple". You can see similar folder flow interfaces that follow that same design.

Honestly, with your post you have excited me with your project. However, I believe you've also shot yourself in the foot. With no binary proof, your whole concept can be plagiarized and effectively used against you. I mean, how do we know you've not taken those images from somewhere else and made this post in order to steal their design and application? I mean you have come in with this post rather defensively, you either you're aware that people can steal ideas or you're hiding something. Obviously, the former is much more likely, you want your entry to be unique, you don't want your ideas taken away. However, I think this will achieve the opposite effect.

Let this be "advice" to everyone entering their project. Until you have binary evidence I strongly DISCOURAGE posting concepts or designs if you wish to keep the ideas unique. I'm all for information freedom, but this is a competition with a LOT of money at stake; i don't believe this world is always friendly.

Back to this, I believe you have a great project with a great potential. Hopefully you'll shock us all with some excellent graphic works, usability and of course, innovation :)
Good luck.

I know that I can't prohibit copying but I wrote this little notice politely to sensitize people about copying and imagine if I spend months working on this project then no one will like it? It is necessary to show people the concept and take into concideration their opinion... I hope that know one will copy this by respect to my rights...

Interesting, a homebrew developer that doesn't develop for themselves. Well, whatever just keep in mind that if someone else releases a shell with all those features then you hold no advantage to them.

looks very good
The best thing about this signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything worthwhile it's too late to stop reading it.
