[Tutorial] PSPGo and DS3 pairing on PC without PSPGo

Post by suloku »

The only advantage of this method, aside from not needing a PS3, is that once you know your PSPGo bluetooth mac address, you don't need the PSPGo at all for pairing any number of DS3 controllers (useful if, like me, only have 1 DS3 controller).

Requirements:
- Pre-installed motioninjoy drivers (http://www.motioninjoy.com)
|........ note: when installing motioninjoy you just need to get to the point when DS3 drivers are installed. It won't be used anymore.
- Pre-paired DS3 with PSPGo (either with PS3 or with motioninjoy) or know the PSPGo Bluetooth MAC address (you can see it in motioninjoy with the PSPGo connected, see the motioninjoy pairing tutorial below)
|........ it might sound redundant, but we only need to do this once
|........ here's how to pair DS3 and PSPGo using motioninjoy: http://www.motioninjoy.com/wiki/en/help/pspgo-ds3-pair
- Usb cable for DS3
- windows OS
- Better DS3: http://betterds3.ciebiera.net

Better DS3 is an alternative user interface to motioninjoy drivers for DS3. The tutorial uses it because it is quicker and easier to use, but everything explained here can be done with motioninjoy. Better DS3 is a standalone executable (doesn't need installation).

If you don't know your PSPGo Mac address:
1.- Open Better DS3
2.- Connect pre-paired DS3 controller to PC trough usb
3.- In section "Bluetooth pairing" copy the adress at "Current Master". That is your PSPGo's bluetooth mac address, keep it.

Now that we know our PSPGo bluetooth mac address, whenever we want to pair a DS3 controller to PSPGo we just have to:
1.- Disable/disconnect your PC's bluetooth device (if it has bluetooth)
2.- Open Better DS3
3.- Connect DS3 controller to pc trough usb
4.- In section "Bluetooth pairing" write the PSPGo's bluetooth mac address in the field "New Master".
5.- Click "Set"

DS3 controller is paired with PSPGo.

As a side note, you can pair the DS3 to any device (another PS3 or pc bluetooth) if you know the device's bluetooth mac address, but it's far easier to connect the cable on PS3, and on PC Better DS3 automatically inputs the PC bluetooth mac address for you (this is why it needs to be disabled to input the address manually).

thanks for this, i remember having problem with motioninjoy when i didn't have PS3 at home. hope this makes the setup easier.

also what is the turn bluetooth off after x minutes option? is it enabled for every device ds3 is connected to? if so, that is great as psp go doesn't have an option to turn off DS3 after some time.

I haven't had any problems pairing my DS3 with the latest motioninjoy driver, but I went directly to use better ds3, since it is cleaner, offline, no ads, standalone...
Maybe I didn't get it right and you are referring to PSPGo-DS3 pairing function motioninjoy has. I have never used that, and I won't be needing to since I keep my Go's mac handy at the cloud. Would be great to be able to get the bluetooth mac from the psp itself, but the pspsdk doesn't have anything for bluetooth I guess there's probably a function in the bluetooth module for that, It wouldn't be hard to make a little app that displays the mac, but obtaining that information from the module is out of my grasp.

That option (and every other) is for when using DS3 as a PC gamepad, since Better DS3 is designed for that matter. We just use its option to manually pair to a bluetooth device to pair it to PSPGo.

You can find the MAC address of the bluetooth module by removing the back of the PSP GO as its printed on the ALPS component next to the battery.

I have a DualShock 3 paired with a GO and the Better DS3 tool reports the address as 56:0A:A4:33:24:00 so the address is read from the bottom right.

The last six digits 33:24:00 appear to be the same on all PsP Go units from looking at images online.

I wish at least the new DS would have a switch to change the bluetooth address between a list of devices paired before  even DS4 which has touchscreen on it has one address memory :/

Each time I need to switch between note 2 and PSP-go I have to start pc
PSP-1000 6.20 16 GB Pro C-2
PSP-go 6.20 32 GB LME 2.3 White
PSP-go 6.60 24 GB Pro C-2 / LME 2.3 Black
PS Vita Slim 8 GB 3.60 Henkaku
PS TV 3.60 Henkaku 1 TB Samsung Story

If MotionInJoy wouldnt take 15 years to PROPERLY load the drivers, this would be a job of 2 minutes.

Took me half an hour to pair my go to the DS3, but still better than buying a PS3 for this.

Thanks for BetterDS3, it made the task much easier :D

for people interested in pairing DS3 and PSPgo without a PS3, better PS3 works as expected, but Sixaxis Pairtool and motionjoy (at least for me) doesn' t works on Windows 8.1.
I suggest to use BetterPS3 for pairing (you also need MotionJoy to Load or Install the driver before run BetterPS3)
sorry 4 my bad english :)
