Dual-boot 5.00 M33-4 and OFW

Post by ruyor » Sat Jan 29, 2011 1:22 pm

---Information---

Currently, CFW is lagging behind OFW. This causes a few problems, mainly off-and-on access to the PSStore and online play. How can we have all the new features and online access of the newest OFW and still have CFW abilities? Dual-booting is a good way to have both a CFW (5.00 M33-4) and an OFW on one PSP. This tutorial will teach you how to install DCv8, mod DCv8 to act as a TimeMachine firmware, and boot into either 5.00 M33-4 or your currently installed firmware.

This will not work on a TA-088v3, PSP-3000, or a Go, TimeMachine requires the use of service mode/Pandora to work which isn't available to TA-088v3 or PSP-3000 because of the IPL problem

---Requirements---

For a Phat (PSP-1000):
At least 60MB free space on your memstick
A Pandora's Battery

For a Slim (PSP-2000)*:
At least 60MB free space on your memstick
2 batteries (one Pandora and one normal) OR A Pandora Battery and a custom IPL for NAND firmware**

*non-TA-088v3
**The reason you need 2 batteries or a Custom IPL for a Slim is clearly stated in the Time Machine readme:
TimeMachine Readme wrote:Timemachine nand boot in slim, requires, however, 3.90 M33-2 or greater (CFW)
3.90 M33-2 and higher CFW has a custom IPL that enables NAND boot from Pandora. There have been custom IPLs that do this written for some of the latest OFWs as well, you'll need one for a single battery setup on a Slim.

---Files Needed---

TimeMachine Install - http://dl.qj.net/psp/hacks-exploits/tim ... e-v01.html

DCv8 Install - http://dl.qj.net/psp/homebrew-applicati ... io-v8.html

Pandora Elf Menu v0.3a - http://www.maxconsole.net/forums/showthread.php?t=83119 (make sure you grab 0.3a and not 0.2a ;) )

OFW Eboots:
5.00 (for DCv8) - http://rapidshare.com/files/154173870/500.PBP
6.30 (for Slim custom IPL on 6.3X) - http://downloads.exophase.com/673/psp-firmware-630/
Whatever you want on your NAND, I recommend the newest OFW.

Custom IPLs (Slim only):
6.20 - Removed for now
6.30, 6.31, & 6.35 - Download by bbgtp

---Installing DCv8---

Unzip "timemachine_0.1.rar" and "dc8 install.zip"

Copy the folders "TIMEMACHINE" and "dc8" to "X:/PSP/GAME" (X = your PSP's drive letter)

Copy 500.PBP to X:/

Run "Time Machine"
Image

Choose "Install iplloader on PSP MS boot sector"
Image

Exit "Time Machine"
Image

Run "Despertar del Cementerio v8"
Image

"Press X to begin the installation"
Image

After installation, hold a button to boot DCv8
Image

Then press X to exit
Image

---Modding DCv8 to boot directly into Test M33---

Connect your memstick to your computer

Unzip "pandora_elf_menu_03a.rar"

Find the file "resurrection.prx" in "X:\TM\DC8\kd" (X = your PSP's Drive letter)

Re-name it to "resurrection.prx.orig"

In the folder "pandora_elf_menu_03a\kd" on your computer, you will find a "resurrection.elf" file, re-name this file to "resurrection.prx" and place it in "X:\TM\DC8\kd" (X = your PSP's Drive letter)

Go to "X:\TM\" on your memstick, you will find a "config.txt" file, open it and you should see something like this:

Code: Select all

UP = "/TM/DC8/ipl.bin";
NOTHING = "NAND";
Change it to look like this (this will make it automatically boot into 5.00 M33-4):

Code: Select all

UP = "NAND";
NOTHING = "/TM/DC8/ipl.bin";
Now completely shut down your PSP, if you don't have a Pandora's Battery in it already, put it in now. If you were successful, your PSP should boot directly to 5.00 M33-4.

---Now What?---

Once this setup is done, you are free to install any firmware on your NAND (OFW or CFW), if you install OFW, you will have to use Recovery Flasher in 5.00 M33-4 or reverse the "Modding DCv8 to boot directly into Test M33" section to re-install CFW to your NAND.

---Installing A Custom IPL For 6.20---

This section is for Slim users with 6.20 firmware on NAND only

At this point, this custom IPL works on 6.20 OFW. If you don't have 6.20 installed on your Slim's NAND yet, then do it BEFORE continuing. If you don't have 6.20 and do this anyway, your NAND firmware will be bricked.

Instructions to be added soon.

---Installing A Custom IPL For 6.3X---

This section is for Slim users with 6.30, 6.31, or 6.35 firmware on NAND only

At this point, this custom IPL works on 6.30, 6.31, & 6.35 OFW. If you don't have one of these installed on your Slim's NAND yet, then do it BEFORE continuing. If you don't have 6.30, 6.31, or 6.35 and do this anyway, your NAND firmware will be bricked.

Unzip "IplInstaller_630.zip"

Copy unzipped "IplInstaller_630" folder to X:/PSP/GAME/ (X=PSP Drive on your PC)

Rename the 6.30 OFW Eboot to "630.PBP" and copy it to the "IplInstaller_630" folder on your PSP

Boot into 5.00 M33-4

Run "6.30 Custom IPL"

"Press X to continue"

It loads things and looks for the IPL in 630.PBP

"Press CIRCLE to install custom IPL"

"Press X to exit"

Done! Now try a reset and see if 6.30/6.31/6.35 loads w/ a Pandora Battery. If it does then you're done.

---Note to Phat Users---

You can leave your Pandora's battery in your PSP without any problems as long as you don't format your memstick, if you do format your memstick, you will have to re-install the TimeMachine iplloader to be able to boot from a Pandora's battery.

A trick I have found to quickly go from 5.00 M33-4 to installed firmware is to use the reset option in the VSH Menu, it will automatically boot into the installed firmware instead of 5.00 M33-4.

---Note to Slim Users that are NOT using a custom IPL---

To boot 5.00 M33-4, use a Pandora's Battery. To boot your installed firmware, use a normal battery. If you format your memstick, you will have to re-install the TimeMachine iplloader to be able to boot from a Pandora's battery.

---Note to Slim Users that ARE using a custom IPL---

You can leave your Pandora's battery in your PSP without any problems as long as you don't format your memstick, if you do format your memstick, you will have to re-install the TimeMachine iplloader to be able to boot from a Pandora's battery.

A trick I have found to quickly go from 5.00 M33-4 to installed firmware is to use the reset option in the VSH Menu, it will automatically boot into the installed firmware instead of 5.00 M33-4.

Happy Dual-booting!

Sorry about that, didn't realize it... Removed for now ;)
If I re-uploaded it without the official IPL, would it be safe? Or would I have to remove the modified one too (making a reupload useless)?

Then their should be instructions given on how to get it.

And because Sony distibutes firmware updates freely isn't that file free?

Like the Song by weird al Don't download this! It's copyrighted you can't sell it but you can download it legally!

There's 2 separate IPLs in the zip, the custom one, and the official one.

---Edit---

I've been talking with other people about this, they say custom IPL distribution is also a no-no, so no 6.20 custom IPL for a while. I'll try to find a good legal solution for this, and if I do, I'll reupload it ;)

Is there a way to modify this tutorial to dual boot the latest OFW and 5.50 Prome-4?
