why release the exploit? @wololo

Post by rafael707 » Wed Dec 28, 2011 6:18 am

do you think releasing the exploit to a few trustworthy talented devs be a wiser move, compared to releasing the exploit to the public, and getting patched by sony?

I relize it's not your exploit and you cant speak for everyone, but dont you think you given few who know the exploit can come to an agreement to set the release to a later date?

Not to be spoiled in any way (i love HBL, ever since beta days), but i think alot of people here in the US/EU would love to have this same opportunity, and releasing it in this state WILL prevent that

please take into consideration, thank you 8-)

i saw what wololo said on the blog, thanks for trying to clarify, but i still dont see a perfect reason to release the exploit to the mass public, for it to get patched, this is what wololo says

WOLOLO
So, the overall uselessness of this makes me wonder if it should be kept secret in order for other hackers to do some research on it, or if it should really be released. I wouldn’t like people to point fingers at me if Sony patches some security flaws after this exploit goes public… I won’t take that decision alone (since I’m not the only one knowing the exploit), obviously, and there’s still time until the US/EU release, but I’m seriously considering the options here.
wololo this still will make people happy, i hope you(and your associates) relize that and keep it under wraps a bit longer, I(WE) love HBL!!!!!!!!!

I agree with that, but the reason your saying to hold off is only because you don't have a ps vita or do you? If this thing gets patched later down the road before EU/US Release.. then what? I for one would like to have the exploit before content manager won't let me transfer the save game.

I received my ps vita today, but my point still stands, people in the US/EU will love this opportunity to play homebrew. I relize its not my choice, i just hope wololo(and everyone else with the exploit) sit down and think about it for a sec.

IMO, the exploit wont get patched unless someone leaks it, OR sony finds out about the flaw and decides to patch it then and their, which i doubt, but could be wrong.

Yeah. I'm thinking of sending this exploit a few days/weeks in advance to a handful of trusted hackers who get a psvita. I'm not sure it will be very useful to any of them, but that sounds like the best move we can do. Once several hackers have this in their possession and can start investigate, then maybe this can go public...
I'll try to ask to Teck4 about that. The language barrier is kind of a problem, but I'm sure we can reach some kind of agreement.

The problem with these things is that the longer it takes to release, the bigger the risk of an uncontrolled leak :P

So, nothing new compared to what I said in my blog: I'm strongly thinking of giving this exploit (and the HBL port) to hackers before everybody else, but this decision needs to be taken not only by me. I also don't know how many people I trust are actually planning on getting a vita.
If you need US PSN Codes, this technique is what I recommend.

wololo: Im thinking once the content manager wont be needed to transfer anything from pc to vita.. hopefully a workaround will be made available... that if the exploit will be released. Then really the only thing is, that people will choose not to upgrade their vista.. which is what were used to on the psp.. latest games or hombrew. Good luck on the final decision.

It's a bit more than that.
Assuming sony patches the exploit, they will:
- remove the game from the store a few hours after the exploit is made public (temporarily)
- patch the OS
- put the game back on the store
- force people to update their firmware if they want to access the store

At this point, people who want to buy the game will be forced to update their firmware if they want to access the store. For these people, the exploit won't work. The only people for whom it will work are people who already own the game before the patch, are ready to not upgrade their vita, and can find a way to copy savedata files on the vita without having to update the vita. This will seriously limit the amount of people who can really use this exploit.
If you need US PSN Codes, this technique is what I recommend.

sony must have found that game..cuz there are only a few games released..easily searchable for a big company like sony  . maybe they want to support homebrew games (UNOFFICIALLY)
