Can you go online with a vita on CEF/ARK?

Post by AltF4 » Tue Jan 13, 2015 3:38 pm

Hey guys

I'm thinking about getting a vita. I'd most probably be playing psp isos and homebrew more than vita games since they are expensive where I live.

I understand that it's prudent for me to obtain a 3.18 or lower firmware vita to achieve this. With that in mind, say for vita games that have DLC,

1.would I be able to download the DLC without having to update my firmware
2.can I play online with the game without having to update my system firmware

Better yet can you guys tell me what I can and cannot do with a 3.18 vita? and also if anyone has a pro/con list on if it's better to just update the vita and buy an actual psp for homebrew and psp games (since vita isn't natively hacked anyways) it would be much obliged.

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. So technically it's useless for vita games if I'm keeping it on a low firmware for psp/homebrew. Got it

Better and cheaper to just get a psp if you aren´t interested in Vita games at all.

I am, but it's just that vita games are more weaboo-centric. My main priority is to somehow find a balance between the two but then again if it's THAT restricted then there's no point for me in investing in the vita.

Are there ANY good worthwhile reasons to justify playing psp games on vita besides the better screen?
Does the vita's double analog even work for ANY psp games?
Can the vita's touchscreen/backscreen be mapped to button taps for homebrew emulators?

Thanks for your answers. :3

The second joystick works for all PSP games. It can map itself to L/R, the Dpad, square/circle/x/triangle, and something else I'm forgetting, which is very, very nice.

The controls are also significantly nicer than the PSP's.

Get a PSP-2000 if you can, though.

If you go in thinking any electronics perchus is an "investment" then you will always be disapointed.
Buy it cause you want it, Not because it will have any "return".

I am with the just buy a PSP crowd BTW.

Is there a way to set this or does it automatically map itself?

Why not psp-3000 straight up? Are there any advantages over the other?

Can you point me to where I can find out? I've tried searching around but couldn't find anything relevant.

Well technically what I mean by "investment" is just to be able to get the most bang for my buck. I'm not expecting great returns i'm just expecting it to be as flexible as possible. In my case the perfect scenario would be if I can have psp, homebrew and complete vita functionality (including online, DLC, etc). Otherwise if it's perfect psp, homebrew and little to no DLC/Online/What makes vita games worth it on the vita then I'd still be okay-ish with it because i'm not into most vita games, but I'd still like the possibility to try them.

The 3000 is fine. I've just seen people rant about the screen on the 3000 being worse than the 2000.

I didn't notice it. :/
