apparently theres a new video hardware mod this company (katsukity) is doing for people, which allows you to play your vita on a big screen tv. Below you will see a vid of it in action. This is the same company who made the capture card for the 3ds so its pretty legit.

since the screen itself is still working, I would say both.

I found out that it adds a mini-usb port at the bottom for the screen out: http://home.consoleheaven.de/
Now only if they try to see what happens if the reroute the memory card to the USB, if we are lucky, it might not be encrypted and we might get raw access

Since it's not official Sony addition it is possible that it should work but nobody (except katsukity) knows how it really works

I think the cosmetics of the installation are just fine. It cuts into the model sticker, but really who cares about that? If it were sticking out beyond the shell I would have issues, but it looks flush to me (set in just a bit would be a bit better). The location of the mini USB is probably dictated by where the connection points are within the VITA. I would be in line to get this, if there were such a line.
