Let's put it this way: we have been strongly thinking with npt about making a new "genesis" competition, focused around hacking the vita.
But after communicating with our "usual" partners (including pspgen for example), we found that for now the general public would be against a full hack of the vita. There's a trend among the lines of "let's give Sony a chance for a little while" before we actually start organizing such contests. Sony is in a really bad shape now, we don't want to promote anything that would make things worse, for a while. Not that I would be against seeing a hack tomorrow, but by funding a contest we would be adding fuel to the fire, and we've agreed that now is not the right time yet.
In other words, it's something I have been strongly thinking about, but the consensus for now is that this would actually give us (hackers) a bad image for now. I'm not ready to donate hundreds of dollars in a contest if the result is that I end up being insulted on every gaming website

So, yeah, to be honest, it's less about being nice to Sony than about giving ourselves a bad image. We are trying very hard to be ethical with this, and although I think a hack like that would be ethical, our studies show that it's not how people in general would see it.
This is also why I am putting more emphasis on the VHBL approach for now, as it is what I'd call a "white" hack.
That being said, I have a few hundred dollars already secured for the contest, and I believe that given the success of the first genesis competition, we wouldn't have problems finding more funding from other scene websites.
I have a few US PSN codes to sell for a reasonable price (cheaper than pcgamesupply). PM me if interested, 1st come 1st serve basis..
