PSVita Kiosk Mode Removal? *Help*

Postby Revenant1 » Sat May 12, 2012 9:37 am

So, last week a local electronics store was having a going out of business sale and they were selling everything, including the kiosk demos and the fixtures.

I picked up a PS3 and a PSVita from them, only to find out when I got home, they were both locked to a demo mode. I unlocked the PS3 after a short bit of googling and some trial and error, but I'm having issues finding a way to unlock the Vita.

I've managed to system settings menu by holding R + PS + Power and starting it up, but the only thing it's really allowed me to do is to update the firmware by connecting it to my PC.
I've also tried to access the Vita through the CMA, but whenever I try to access it through windows explorer, it says the device is unavailable.

I'm sure that if I could just access the Vita's memory card, I could manage from there, but it looks like the device is on complete lockdown.

I've also tried to go back to the store to ask them, but they've officially cleared out and locked their doors.

Any ideas?

That's what I was figuring.

The one idea I had was somehow loading a factory firmware pup file onto a memory card with another vita, swapping the card to the demo'd one, then running a system update from memory card. Not sure if the update would take it back to retail or not though.

afaik the Vita dose not use pup files

also afaik you cant put a update into the Vita like that
(there is no "install from MC" option)
you should try setting up a proxy and making it download a retail update

EDIT: oh wait you said you updated it right ? well then you might be out of luck then

That really sounds stupid now, but have you tried sending the Sony Support a mail?

I actually just sent one in, on the off chance that they'll actually be able to give me any sort of usable information.

Though as it looks, I think I'll just be out the $175

read this page ^^^^

Yah I found that page a while back. I'm not sure if maybe he had a different firmware or hardware release, or whatever, but when I updated my firmware through the computer, it kept it in demo mode somehow.
