Oops... sorry about that. Though at first, the psp needed a update before it got to where it was (Remember - you could only do 480x272 encodes at first) Though the basic functionality of the psp media player is leagues beyond the PSVita player.

I guess I was hoping to high to expect it to be on par with the ps3 media player

I've been using freemake for videos, just use the Sony -> PS3 720 preset, not as powerful a converter as the OP showed, not really any options to play around with, but for anyone looking for a quick and easy video conversion it works great.

Not at all...one of the points of this tutorial was to knock out the frustrations I went through trying to figure it out myself. All long as it's followed, all that is needed is to set it and forget it. Also that was one of the reasons of adding in the checklist of what's needed if anyone wants to use any other encoder than the one I'm using.

In the beginning it was pretty frustrating, now it's of a second nature to me. I just wanted to share some of the stuff I learned so people wouldn't have to go through it themselves. I like Xvi4psp just simply for the control I have over the videos I encode, any encoder can be used :D

really? I mean I know it isnt an easy task but it only took me a try to figure out psp video was compatible on the vita, and another one to upscale the command used for ffmpeg

End product encoding in a mp4 x264
AVC level must be set to 3.1
AVC profile baseline, normal, high can be used
Audio must be 2-channel stereo

Not every video conversion tool are going to offer those options. Should revise using more common universal settings.
For instance Roxio:
Code: Select all
H.264
[Max] HD 720p (1280x720)
Data rate [max?] 25000 kbs
Audio format - AAC
Sampling rate 48khz
Sample size 16bits
2 channel stereo

You don't really have to worry about the AVC lvl and baseline as some tools set that for default anyway. This way is just easier and more commonly listed. If you're going for a smaller size you can just downgrade to MP4 and lower the overall data rate.

Those common universal settings just set it up to exactly what I'm saying to set it up to, xvid4psp just leaves more control to you. Also, if your making a PS Vita compatible you definitely need to pay attention to the AVC lvl or else it won't work and why would you downgrade to MP4 when that's all the Vita can play :?: :?

Thanks for the guide thebudds. Unfortunately my small video is taking forever to cache for some reason. I have a more than adequate computer so this should not be a performance issue (Core i7 870 2.93GHz, 16.0 GB RAM). Guess I will try Xilisoft.
