Please help with PSP-3001! What MB and what to do first!

Post by Shadow Hado » Sun May 29, 2011 8:14 pm

Hello guys. Today I picked up a PSP-3001 because my old PSP-1000 finally crapped out on me. The analog stick didn't work, and even though I was able to solder a connection for it, the wires still have a rough time staying down and the faceplate doesn't sit flush at all.

ANYWHO, so about this PSP-3001. I have looked everywhere on the internet to try and figure out what I need to do first, and it's a mess. I can tell you that it's a PSP-3001, the OFW that it came with is 6.37, and the date code inside the UMD drive door looks like it says 11G4B or 1IG4B Everything I have read so far says that the first two digits will be a number followed by a letter, so my guess is one-eye-gee-four-bee.

I am looking to install CFW on it so I can use the programs and games I own again. I am pretty sure I had 5.50 Gen-D on my PSP-1000 (maybe it was 5.03?) except I just went to check it and now the screen won't come on (loose ribbon cable I think.) So I want to get that same functionality on my new PSP. I am hesitant because I was also reading that some PSP's can brick if you try to downgrade on a certain MB or Firmware or something. I didn't want to risk it without asking.

So if someone can help me as to what I should do first safely, and/or help me identify my PSP Motherboard, I would really appreciate it. Since I am at 6.37, is 6.35 PRO something I should look into? Or possibly 6.20 TN-E Permanent Patch? Or maybe LCFW 6.39ME-2 is the way to go?

This is why I am so confused lol.

Thanks for any help!

Regardless of what you're going to do, I believe you need to upgrade to 6.39 first. The current downgraders don't run on 6.37 AFAIK, only 6.35, 6.36, 6.38 and 6.39. Then you have a choice: Either use 6.39 ME-2 LCFW, 6.39 PRO-B6 (another LCFW) or downgrade. You can check which mobo your PSP has by running on of these LCFWs and then running PSPident. But seeing as your PSP came with 6.37, I don't think it can downgrade to 6.20, at best 6.35 (perhaps not even, I think the general rule is you can't go lower than what it came with). So you won't be able to have Permanent Patch, so there is no point downgrading at all. 6.39 PRO-B6 has the same features as 6.35 PRO-B6. And on 6.39, you can have the choice of 6.39 ME-2 LCFW or 6.39 PRO-B6 (you can even have both installed and boot whichever you want if features exclusive to one will be useful at different times - generally I believe they can co-exist fairly well, but I think VSH menu in one will not work, presumably the first installed)

EDIT: Nevermind about identifying mobo, seeing as you have 09g, you could only go to 6.35 i.e. it is pointless to downgrade with 6.39 PRO-B6

Thanks! I was able to get LCFW 6.39ME-2 working, and some of my homebrew apps worked, but when I tried to play one of my iso/cso's, the screen went blank like it was loading, and then turned off. Any suggestions?

*edit* it is specifically Phantasy Star Portable 2. If I can't get it running and have to leave that as my one UMD I have with me, it's not the end of the world. But just curious.

Got it running perfectly fine with 6.39 PRO B6!!! Didn't have any luck with LCFW 6.39ME-2, so I tried the other! Thanks!

Well, first, I'd recommend 6.20 TN. Don't apply the perma patch though, because lots of PSPs were bricked. I was just lucky :?
Second, thanks for the grammar and description of the situation  You are one of the only people who do it that way. Thanks again!

Did you read the thread? He can't downgrade to 6.20, so he cannot use perma patch on any CFW.

he's also on a 3000 model, so idk why they suggested the MEs. i thought those were only for 1k and 2k. just stick with 6.39 PRO-B6, and you'll be fine

The last version (6.39 ME-3) is also available in a LCFW version but not for Go. You can use both.
