Downgrading? Can't touch flash0, but theres CFW? Confused...

Post by Espionage724 » Sat Jan 01, 2011 11:47 am

I always understood that:

- Downgrading was impossible (we all know it isn't now)
- Touching flash0 at all on a newer PSP resulted in a brick
- CFW can never be installed to a newer PSP, but only HEN
- CFW is flashed to flash0

I understood CFW having to be flashed to your PSP I thought, but I heard of many guides claiming you can install CFW to a PSP 3000 (which I thought was still impossible from the top reasons)

So is what I understand correct or do I have the wrong idea completely? Can CFW really be installed to newer PSP's so that I can shutdown and restart my PSP without loosing CFW?

I've only heard "some" people down at PSP-hacks.com downgraded there newer 2k's & 3's down to OFW 5.03, then installed Chickhen. Don't take my word for it, but your answer... nope, I dont think theres a permenent CFW for 3k's or newer 2k's. if there was, I think they could've made a "pandora method" type of CFW installment, which they didnt.

People aren't installing CFW to flash0, they are using a tool similar to the TN-HEN's to write it directly to RAM, meaning it only lasts until you turn it off. Technically TN-HEN is a "flashed CFW" the same as those, considering all the extra functions above just homebrew enabling.

Ok so basically the only reason to downgrade is to have more plugin support? But between 5.03/5.50 and TN-HEN 6.20, neither of them can be permanent (on 3xxx)?

They cant be permanent. They only write to the ram, so switching off the PSP will result in OFW (ram is clearing while shutting down). Downgrading also mean's that you can play PS1 game's, and have way more CXMB theme's ;)

O, well I guess theres no rush for me to go downgrade again I guess (i went to 5.03 already, but reupgraded to 6.20), that ClearXMB theme someone relased is good enough for me, and I can wait for PSX games (only game I would wanna play is Diablo)
