Nope, it's just like keyboard button's they're just connected to electronics, not electronics! So it's safe to clean it with a wet cloth

Except for when we clean keyboard buttons, we're cleaning the tops of the buttons, not inside the keyboard. Right now, we're talking about cleaning the underside of the D-pad, which IS in contact with other electronics. AND EVEN IF it wasn't in contact with electronics, there's condensation. The part that we are wetting is INSIDE the PSP casing. Water is now introduced to the (mostly) closed environment, free to roam onto something that can actually short-circuit. Would you clean the inside of your computer with water? Because that is what a PSP is. A computer.

The actual D-Pad piece wouldn't be in contact w/ electronics during cleaning

That's why you let it dry before putting it back together :|

it wouldn't be closed if you have to open it to clean it...

Maybe if you used a completely dripping wet rag to clean the button surface in the PSP, but no one is that stupid (I hope).

I have used a rag (wetted w/ water and rung out well) to clean plenty of super dirty PC parts and they worked fine afterward :P

Of course if you do stuff like this, you have to know what you're doing. As long as you cut all the power, use as little water as possible, and make sure it's completely dry before reassembling and testing, you should be fine.

Yeah, that works too. I was reacting the vagueness of the 'clean it with water', but if you're that specific, no idiot is gonna screw up their PSP based on our advice now.
