Recommended SNES emulator on PSP?

Post by rsn8887 » Mon Jun 13, 2016 5:32 pm

I have been using snes9xtylmecm 0.4.2 mod rev.19 for the longest time. But I heard that there are other versions of this that have less slowdown.

I tried the patched latest version from here, which is based on the github version snes9xtylmecm 0.4.2 mod rev.28, but patched to not crash on startup, as described in github issue 14.

However, the sound in rev.19 seems to work much better than 28! The sound effects on rev.28 are distorted and more bleepy (especially noticeable on Ghoul Patrol or in the underground stages on Mario All Stars, SMB 1), and there seems to be less slowdown in Super Mario World.

Now I wonder, what is the recommended best version of SNES9XTYLMECM on PSP?

Someone mentioned an older version called "Snes9xTYLmecm [091127]" was better. Is this true, and where do I get that?

BTW, I noticed that in the latest versions of most emulators for PSP, the sound tends to be worse than in the older version before somebody started patching around. This is definitely true for gbsp kai (reverted back from latest version to unofficial gbsp kai 3.4 test 3 build 92 because the sound is much better there), and I think I also noticed worse sound in newer versions of cps1psp, cps2psp, and mvspsp (reverted back to 2.3.1 original version).

I am using exact same settings to compare versions.

Here's a link to a pack containing SNES9xTYLmecm[v0.4.2-091127-F2], which is the one you asked about.

I currently have the old mod rev.19 (mod rev.28 is actually a different branch with different devs and stability), 091127-F2 and mod rev.28. I can't remember which one is faster, though. Usually I just get a game I want to play and try every emulator out for the best performance for that specific game. Just keep all 3.
