Firmware Update question.

Post by karkinissan » Sat Nov 06, 2010 3:41 am

I was just wondering, when we update from a lower firmware to a higher one,
- is the entire flash rewritten or
- just new files are added (& edited) to the flash?

I would assume the entire flash is rewritten. It is easier for the Update to not care about your previous firmware.Otherwise each new firmware would have to carry a full diff of all firmwares, in order to know what files to patch.
If you need US PSN Codes, this technique is what I recommend.

So, does that mean one can rewrite the entire flash without any "Pandora and MMS" or other stuff?
Also can rewriting the flash be only done with the help of Pandora and MMS? (or are there other ways?)

you can write to the flash via a kernal exploit like a hen but you cant put custom firmware on a psp with the new ipl ex psp 2000 with new mobo , psp 3000, psp go
