Firmware options for PSP-1000 PRO/ME/Infinity ?

Post by bengalih » Mon Oct 24, 2016 10:49 pm

So yes - this is another "what is the best firmware thread", but I have been reading all over an still don't seem to have any concrete answers. It seems that this particular forum is skewed toward "PRO" over "ME" but I can't really find a definitive reason why that is. Is there a specific feature breakdown somewhere or can someone give some reasons why PRO is superior to ME (or inferior in any ways)?

Please keep in mind I am asking this question for a PSP-1000, so let's gear it towards that. Also I have really been out of the scene since M33 - although I did upgrade to ME 6.60 1.8 about 2 years ago though I didn't honestly do much research then and haven't been using it since.

In addition to the PRO vs. ME question, I also would like to know 6.60 or 6.61 ?
I would prefer to be on the latest 6.61, but I have heard that 6.61 might also break some things (like plugins) but again - I am having a very hard time finding concrete facts.

While I have read that Infinity is not the best choice for the 1000 (stick to the CIPL flashes instead) - it appears Infinity has a prx which allows 6.60 plugins to be used on 6.61 by abstracting them. Thus, I'm wondering if using Infinity to load the translator prx and then running 6.61 on top of that (PRO or ME) is the way to go.

I just can't find any up to date information that discusses the pros/cons especially of the latest firmware - I've seen the one massive thread on this board, but after reading through many pages of it I still have questions.

Much appreciated!

The reason for it probably due to many of us actually talking with coldbird thus we are kinda biased.... neur0n is a cool guy and all but he never showed up to talk probably since he is Japanese iirc.
As for PRO vs ME then they are the same, heck neur0n joined PRO Team in the end and worked on PRO CFW but honestly they both do the same thing so it really doesn't matter.

6.60 vs 6.61? doesn't matter since only a single game ever used 6.61 and in fact that .01 update exists just for that one game.(can't remember what it was)
So yea again it doesn't matter but I use 6.61 since I like having my stuff updated if possible, some plugins did brake with that update but all the good ones have since been updated to fix them.

Infinity is cool but unless you have some super important plugin that doesn't work on 6.61 because it's looking specifically for 6.60(its what broke some plugins, not that the update made them incompatible but more that the firmware number changed so they would just refuse to run) then its pointless on a 1k, I just stick to 6.61 ME on my 1k but if I would get another or it was old and needed to be updated I would go 6.61 PRO.

Thanks fate... It did seem that this particular board was heavily biased toward Pro to the extent it felt that the Pro dev team was somehow involved. Your comments about talking with the dev on the Pro release more makes a lot of sense now as to why that is.

I don't want to doubt your claims, but I'm very inquisitive :) and there still seems to be so much discussion as to PRO vs. ME that it seems very strange that no differences exist.
I would think that neur0n, especially after joining the PRO team would release some sort of news update to basically say that the two are the same now, etc.

This seems to cause a lot of confusion and questions that can pretty much be wiped out if the answer is they are now identical.

Is there anything about features, usability, or simply just preference (other than the name or the dev) that makes one superior/inferior in any respect to the other?

thanks!

PRO has online ad-hoc, ME doesn't.

ME has the ME ISO driver + PRO Inferno ISO driver, Both run anything so doesn't matter.

ME has LEDA plugin, PRO does not.
LEDA is a plugin that lets you run some really old 1.50 homebrew.

Are you sure ME doesn't have ad hoc support?

I found this:

http://wololo.net/2014/12/14/psp-revisi ... -and-more/

Which seems to indicate ME has had it since 2.3.

What you have stated I have seen before ... but it appears people may be working off information from older versions ??

Oh yea forgot it was added later on... This brings up the "It doesn't matter since they are both the same" thing again tho.
Not sure if PRO can run .dax but personally I always kept my games in clean ISO so IDK.

Lol...yeah, well that's kind of been my point. If "It doesn't matter since they are both the same thing" at this point (with the latest versions), then it would be nice if the major players in the scene (like this forum and others like it) clearly outlined that in whatever tutorial/sticky section. It would prevent the endless questions like mine :)

My current working assumption is they *are* both the same in terms of features/pros/cons because no one that I have asked so far has been able to tell me differently when taking into account the latest releases.

Thanks.
