Install CFW on 3.95 OFW

I'm sorry if this is already answered. But I just purchased a Phat PSP 1004 with 3.95 OFW installed. Is it possible to installed CFW or would I need to update it to a later firmware?

First of which PSP is it? 1000 or 2000?

Update your PSP to 6.61 OFW and then install PRO CFW for 6.61 (viewtopic.php?f=17&t=41249)

Put the PROUPDATE and FASTRECOVERY on your memory stick in the GAME folder and install PROUPDATER only. Next download and run this on your PSP (http://wololo.net/downloads/index.php/download/1286), this will help determine if your PSP can install permanent CFW (this is only needed if you have a PSP 2000 Slim). Well OP said 1004 so...

oops, wasn't paying much attention.

@OP, install 6.61 OFW, keep PROUPDATE and delete FastRecovery. Transfer the CIPL folder instead to your memory stick. Run PROUPDATE and install the CFW modules and after that has completed, run the CIPL and make it permanent. Done!
