Motherboard model :: TA-088 v1/v2
Motherboard type :: Slim 2001 (02g)

Update to 6.60, install ME CFW (OFW Installer), done.

ME is like M33, just updated for the 6.xx CFWs.

Or you can install PRO CFW. Apparently it runs some games better as some users reported. Use the latest ones provided by Qwikrazor.

Should I update to a 6.20 permanent patch?
What's the Pros and Cons of 6.20 perma-patch and the 6.60

I'm confused between CFW/OFW/ME/LME/ Pro CFW

Perma patch is an inferior form of a "full CFW".

There is literally no reason to run a permanent patch, when your PSP supports a cIPL CFW (like M33 or GEN were "full CFWs").

There is also no reason to use an older OFW (6.20 in your case), if you can use a superior full CFW (cIPL CFW) on a higher firmware (6.60 or 6.61). I would only use the 6.20 if your PSP has to use the perma patch to get a "permanent CFW" (new PSPs have to do this), otherwise I would go with 6.60 or 6.61, since those offer cIPL CFW (full CFWs) for older PSPs.

For the mentioned terms:

OFW = Official firmware (Sony firmware)

ME = A full CFW like M33, just updated for 6.xx firmwares. It has all of the M33 features, looks and feels like the M33 CFW, but also offers features of its own. It also has the same features as the PRO CFW (as of PRO-C1f3).

LME = Temporary version of the ME CFW. It has the very same features as the ME CFW, except that it lacks the cIPL (the thing what makes the CFW a "full CFW" on old PSPs). Since cIPL does not work on newer PSPs, it was removed. The permanent patch can be used with the LME CFW, which then makes it a "permanent CFW" on most PSPs (any PSP up to PSP Go. This excludes 50% of PSP 3000s and the PSP E1000).

PRO = An alternative CFW that is also based on the M33 CFW, but took a kinda different approach on designing their Recovery Menu (looks like ****, imo). Otherwise this is the "other CFW" that is available for the 6.xx CFWs. It pretty much does the same as the ME CFW, even though ME CFW has more features. The most recent PRO CFW update (PRO-C2, february build) had an improvement to its ISO driver, otherwise it is nearly the same as the older PRO-C1f3.

Since you are using an "old PSP" (one that could use M33 and 5.50 GEN CFW), I would recommend you to use the ME CFW, since it is the better CFW for older PSPs. I would only use the PRO CFW on the PSP 3000, if any at all. I myself prefer the ME & LME CFW, because they are just better (except for that most recent ISO driver update, but dont worry, we will take care of it).

So a perma patch is for a cfw that does not have a cipl isn't it. And ME and PRO is almost the same, just that it has slightly different features and the different vsh menus and the LME is the "undone" ME

But does ME and PRO need the fast recovery tool every time the psp reboots?

One more time:

Any PSP 1000 and most PSP 2000s (except those with the "cursed" TA-088v3 botherboard), are capable of running a "full CFW" (a cIPL CFW). The old 5.50 GEN and 5.00 M33 CFWs are cIPL CFWs.

The TA-088v3 2000, any 3000s, the Go and E1000 can not use these "full CFWs", because their hardware fixed the IPL-flaw that was used to use a cIPL (custom IPL).

The TA-088v3 2000, most of the 3000s and every PSP Go are capable of running the sony firmware 6.20. Since the permanent patch has been fixed as of firmware 6.30, these PSPs have to be downgraded to version 6.20 to run something that is similar to a "full CFW" (cIPL), but is technically worse (but yet visually an automatically booting CFW). This is called a "permanent CFW" (a temporary CFW that was made permanent thanks to the permanent patch).

The most recent 3000s and the PSP E1000 can not run to PSP firmware 6.20 (they were shipped with firmware 6.3x and 6.50, respectively), and are therefore unable to use any kind of "full" or "permanent" CFW. These devices can only use temporary CFWs. Temporary CFWs require the usage of a launcher (LME launcher, PRO recovery).
Updating a PSP that would technically support the permanent patch (88v3 2000, most 3000s, the PSPGOs) to a firmware higher than 6.20 (6.3x, 6.60, 6.61), is also forced to use a temporary CFW, since the perma patch only works up to 6.20, any these devices do not support the "full CFWs" (cIPL CFWs - only supported by the older PSPs).

I hope this amount of imformation can help you a bit.

To actually answer your question, the ME CFW does not and will never require any kind of "launcher", because it only exists as "full CFW", and a full CFW is only available for the PSP 1000s and most PSP 2000s. It is ALWAYS a full CFW and ALWAYS boots the CFW by itself.

The LME and PRO CFW do require a launcher to launch the CFW; because these CFWs are only temporary CFWs. Depending on your PSP and your firmware, they may also be flashed as "permanent CFWs" via the permanent patch, but this only works up to version 6.20, and only on PSPs up to PSPgo (or 3000 04g).

In case your install the PRO CFW on an old PSP (any PSP 1000, any PSP 2000 - except for the TA-088v3 one), you can also use the optional cIPL flasher, which can "transform" the temporary PRO CFW into a "full CFW" (cIPL CFW). But the cIPL Flasher only works on the older PSPs and would brick a newer PSP (because they dont support cIPLs).

The PRO CFW was pretty much made and designed as a temporary (or permanent) CFW, while the ME CFW was primarily made and designed as full CFW (cIPL CFW). The LME was created at a later date to offer the functions of the ME CFW for the newer PSP devices (as temporary ME CFW, aka. L(ight)ME CFW).

I would stick with the ME CFW (6.60 or 6.61, since those are the newest firmwares) for older PSPs (any PSP 1000 and any PSP 2000, except for the TA-088v3 motherboard one), and use the LME or PRO CFW on the PSP 3000s (03g, 04g, 07g, 09g), PSPgo and PSP E1000 (even thought I would still use the LME CFW, since I think it is superior - especially on a PSPgo).

PRO CFW is both CIPL and Temporary.
PRO CFW with CIPL Flasher - Full CFW, like M33, GEN, ME, etc. Just run the PRO Update and let it install and after that run CIPL flasher and let install and done! You will have a full CFW like M33, GEN, etc.
PRO CFW with Fast Recovery - Same as LME, it will have to be restarted every time.

ME is a full CFW with CIPL - It will boot into CFW every time with no need of a restart, like M33, GEN, etc
LME is a temporary CFW with no CIPL - Which will have to be restarted every time you shutdown the PSP, same as PRO CFW with Fast Recovery.

I would recommend both CFW's but that is entirely up to you.

Update to 6.60 or 6.61 and install one of the CFW's you would like.

PRO CFW here - 6.61/6.60/6.20 PRO-C2 (14-02-2015)
ME CFW here - [Release] LME and ME Custom Firmware Collection

Both are very good CFW's but I would say as of today PRO still remains the most popular CFW and would be the better option just simply because of the latest commit made to the beastly Inferno driver that made it the ultimate ISO loader. That's not to say ME is bad because it's not and actually, it is my installed firmware for the past 3 years+. Both have their pro's and con's but that is up to you to decide. Both CFW's are amazing for a PSP-2000.

I can confirm this. It runs games better than ME since the latest update to the Inferno driver.

Due to the year long "lol, use PRO CFW" 'propaganda', this doesnt surprise me.

Every single guide and recommendation was the PRO CFW, even though the ME CFW has been better since years.
Pretty much the same as recommending the 5.50 GEN back in the days, even though the M33 ran better.

But who am I, I am "just a silly fanboy" (according to you people).

Wow, I felt like i'm under somekind of tech debate between the Z and Casavult. But thanks both of you anyway. I'll try both of them since I have two PSPs.

Cheers :)
