Can I just reinstall ME using the normal steps ?
The OFW version is the one you want to use when your PSP is currently running official firmware (its signed I think). If you are already running another cfw and want to install ME then you can use the other version.
Anyways, you want to use the OFW version to install it.
Hi from 5.00 m33-6 to ofw 5.00 and then to ofw 6.60, then to 6.60 me should not corrupt anything.
Corruptions only appear if you used any of those GEN-D (5.50 D1,D2,D3) firmwares... after reinstalling the ofw, all your saves are corrupt, you need to install any pro cfw and then run that gen d3 save game fixer from luca.
That worked for me, some years ago.
The internet is a bottomless barrel of sh*t, we try to fill it, everyday. But we fail, because its bottomless.
Why we dont have a thread listing the difference between the lastest releases of CFWs is a question I kept in my mind all the time. Well change logs of them are inside zip files but thats another thing. Functions of them all over different topics to compare. I wonder if its because of competition between the developers or nobody ever asked for it ?

@OP - your best option would be to install 6.60 ME 2.3, then PROcfw on that, and you can launch PRO whenever you want to from ME itself. This way, you can have OFW(pressing home button while booting into ME launches OFW), ME cfw (normal boot) and PRO cfw (via fast recovery). This was my setup on my old PSP 2k.
the best option for someone on PSP 1k and early 2ks ME is the best option IMO. In fact I was so reluctant to leave m33 but I kinda had to do that for playing the English patched vc3 at that time. Fortunately, ME was everything that m33 was and more.
For the newer PSP s , I'd go with LME , but only because of the perma patch, otherwise its a personal choice. ME updates are easier too keep up with, PRO is confusing because of its many revisions, (to me at least )
Hi! I am Peter from Hungary. Happy new year! My seven year old son got a PSP 2004, which has a 5.00 M33-6 software. Could you explain me, how I can install a system like yours, I mean the official/ME/Pro tri-systems. I would be grateful if you gave me links to the softwares which I need. Thank you in advance! If anybody else knows the answer, please help us!
