PSP-3000 on 5.03 Prom-4, should I upgrade to a 6.xx cfw?

Postby Shaddap » Thu Aug 16, 2012 11:30 pm

Just wondering what advantages there are to updating my cfw and which would be the cfw of choice for my model. I haven't had any real trouble running anything with 5.03 Prometheus 4 but I'd like to know if I'm missing out on any advantages from making the jump to something more recent. Thanks in advance!

I'm not exactly sure what 5.03Prometheus-4 offers but I can tell you that both of the most recent, still supported (L)CFW's (PRO and LME) offer a lot to end users.

PRO-Cx offers AT-PRO which is an online server for AD-Hoc games (more info here - http://forum.prometheus.uk.to/index.php )

LME 1.8 offers LEDA.prx which allows you to play very old homebrews (the ones that came with two folders, xxx% and xxx. More info found here - viewtopic.php?f=17&t=7334 )

Both (L)CFW's also offer almost full compatibility with every PSP game/homebrew made.

That actually does sound pretty great. Which would you recommend for my model? And would it be possible to downgrade if I'm decide to go back for some odd reason?

if you want a permanent LCFW go with 6.20 PRO-C (fix 3) + Permanent Patch Applied

or if you want the latest firmware with native support for PSN, Games, Media Go & PS3 Connectivity without the need of faking your version

go with 6.60 PRO-C (fix 3) or 6.60 LME 1.8

I thought PSP-3000's couldn't do permanent cfw? Or HEN isn't needed anymore? I haven't kept up with the scene in years, so sorry if I come off a bit noobish. haha

The permanent patch is an exploit on 6.20 to allow a PSP to coldboot into a HEN/LCFW.
Its not the same as CIPL, and if the flash gets wrecked, you can't unbrick it, though some semi-bricks can be fixed on PermaPro that a non-Permapatched model would not recover from.

There's a patch only for 6.20 (and it's only for PRO since LME is only 6.39/6.60) that autoboots the (L)CFW when the PSP turns on. I personally don't recommend using the perma patch since it only takes about six seconds to load PRO and there is a slight risk of bricking your PSP when installing the patch.

I myself have been using 6.20PRO since PRO-B2 was released and I'm very happy with it, I'm currently using 6.20PRO-Cf3 (found here - http://cf6d84fb.linkbucks.com/ [That is Coldbirds linkbucks link, not mine, support the devs they work very hard for us]) and it works great.

You can also use PRO-C on 6.60 which would allow you to also try out 6.60LME 1.8 by Neur0n. I recommend updating your PSP to 6.60 and trying them both out to see which one fulfills your needs. If you like the old 1.5 homebrews then you should go with LME, if you want to play one of the 47+ Ad-Hoc games online via Coldbird's AT-PRO server then you should go with PRO-Cf3.

You can also dual boot 6.60PRO-Cf3 and 6.60LME1.8. (There's a few threads in this sub forum about doing it, I believe you have to install PRO first, then LME but don't quote me on that. I've never attempted to do it since both of my PSP's are still on 6.20)

I think I might go with 6.20PRO-Cf3, considering how you've stuck with it despite the newer ones out there. The adhoc server does sound tempting but are there any functions I'd be missing out on that 6.20PRO-Cf3 can do?

I think 6.60 and 6.20 PRO-C have the exact same functionality except 6.60 has native PSN support.

yep afaik the only difference is themes and native PSN
oh and the perma pach

i always suggust to people to update to 6.60 no matter the mobo but i can understand why people stay with 6.20
as for the other OFW, well its beyond me why they stay on those :/
