What's with all these PRO CFW versions?

Postby n00neimp0rtant » Mon Jun 11, 2012 1:06 am

I have been out of the scene for some years now, but it's great to see it's still alive. Apparently "PRO CFW" seems to be the best solution nowadays, but I went to grab the latest and it looks like there are four different versions for four different firmwares: 6.20, 6.35, 6.39, and 6.60. So far, the only difference I can readily determine is that 6.20 allows for some kind of "permanent" installation. I would really appreciate your help in teaching me what the differences are, which is best, etc. I have 3 PSP 1000s, all with 5.50 GEN-D3.

I'll repay you guys with research on game save exploitation with the hoards of digital PSP titles I have. (I'm a regular iOS developer, hacker, and reverse engineer of third-party apps =] )
Yes, I'm the iOS dev/hacker of the same name.

since you have 1k's I would highly suggest 6.60 ME
(its a full CFW just like the old M33)
(in fact its based of it)

BTW the permanent patch is for non CIPL PSP's (later 2k, 3k, etc)
PRO does have a optional CIPL but frankly when it comes to the old PSP's ME is the way to go

Out of interest- why would you choose ME over PRO for 1000 PSPs?

well its designed more toward the 1k & early 2ks while IMO PRO is really more for the newer PSP's (especially with the online)

plus ME feels like M33 to me and well... I really liked DaX
(neur0n is right at the top with him tho)
(dont worry Coldbird your up there two <3)
(I now next to nothing about VF so I cant comment on him)

oh and ME can play old 1.50 homebrew which as odd as it may seem I still have & use

EDIT: oh I forgot one thing

PRO = HEN
ME = CFW

dont get me wrong in fact PRO can do anything a CFW can but mhee I calls em like I sees em :/

Pro is a (L)CFW though.
It has cIPL for those who need it, can run perma-patch on 6.20, installs data onto the flash even when not using cIPL/PermaPro, and has numerous features built in.
Hardly just a HEN.

sorry but I got to go with Davee and say the idea of a "light" CFW is just absurd

I do agree that PRO is hardly just a HEN but... hmm I should start a contest so people can come up with a more proper name

but until then L/CFW it is >___<

Then what of LME? Just another HEN?
And does PermaPRO or PROcIPL still count as a HEN?
It feels highly unfair to single out PRO when (L)ME could have the same assertions made about it.

you are right LME would also count as a HEN in my book

perma patch is just a auto booting HEN ;)
and as for CIPL... well I would say thats a CFW but.... hmm >___<
(we really need to start some sort of standardisation)

Do they all support seplugins? And what's the situation with being able to access PSN?

I think the names that the creators of each respective (L)CFW gave them are perfectly acceptable. :shock:
