Install CFW on my latest OFW CECH 2501A?
I really do not know how to do this stuff, I wish it was as easy as PSP but it is not so...yeah. How would I go about this? I am really new to console modding, the only console I modded was original Xbox but that is very easy to do, so I do not know exactly how to go about getting CFW on my PS3, I plan on buying another PS3 just so I can still play Borderlands 2 with my online friends if I do get CFW on the PS3 that I have, thanks for any help you guys can give.

If you're on the latest OFW, you'll need to downgrade with a hardware flasher.
So, first thing you need to check is if your PS3 supports a downgrade to the needed firmware.
The CECH-25XXx series are the fickle ones.
Use miniversionchecker like you would install any OFW updater from USB, and it will tell you the lowest OFW your PS3 supports.
If its 3.55 or lower, its possible to downgrade and install CFW.
If its 3.56 of higher, CFW is not possible.
So, first thing you need to check is if your PS3 supports a downgrade to the needed firmware.

Currently it says the latest update is 4.53 and I am 4.50...shouldn't I be disconnnected from PSN if I am not on the latest firmware? I just noticed this because I do not have the update via storage media option.

Staying off the PSN on any CFW, mhm, its the safest course of action.
It doesn't have an update from storage option? That's odd.
Sign out of the PSN, and disconnect your PS3 from your network.

Yeah I know that but I meant, if I am on the OFW 4.50 and the latest is OFW 4.53, shouldn't I be not allowed to connect to PSN? And the version checker has said that 3.40 or later can be installed...SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!

This way is the easiest to do and it does not format your HDD when downgrading.
You now need a flasher like the E3 Flasher http://e3-tech.net/e3%20flasher.html
After that need to make a backup of your NOR then Validate it to make sure there are no errors:

Then you can patch it with BwE Nor Validator v1.31 on my thread:

Basicly, you open the app and then it will analyze the dump then it should ask you if you want to use the 3.55 downgrade patch.
Click on yes and after that, just restore the backup on your PS3.
Then restart your PS3 and grab this:

Install it on your PS3 like any other firmware update and you will be on 3.55 OFW.
Next install 3.55 Kmeaw CFW to reset your syscon. If you don't, there is a chance of bricking your PS3.

Next download Toggle QA (Team Rebug) v1.0 from my PS3 thread, install it, run it, then you should hear a couple beeps and the system should exit to the XMB. Last thing you need to do after running the app is to make sure you are Qa Flaged. Go to the Network Settings on the XMB DO NOT CLICK ON IT, just hover over it and press these buttons all at the same time:
L1 + L2 + L3 + R1 + R2 + Down
If all went correctly, you should see Debug settings, Install Pkg files and Edy Viewer and you are free to install whatever CFW you want.
But Do Not go on PSN on a CFW PS3. If you do, you will be banned.

Use the Rebug 4.46 and install it when you get done with the previous instructions, just remember to Qa Flag your PS3

Okay after scrolling down the home page for rebug I am lost, what is REX/DEX/CEX? And which do I get because otherwise I am as lost as Krieg the Pyshco is.

CEX = Retail
DEX = Debug
REX = Combination of the two made only by Rebug
