Upgrade from Rogero 4.30 to 4.40 and dehashing

Post by arthanis » Tue Apr 09, 2013 9:44 pm

Hello all. I upgraded my ps3 from 3.55 cfw to 4.30 cfw successfully (see this post viewtopic.php?f=16&t=18384) with the great help of you guys (specially deadpunk).

Now I'm willing to upgrade to 4.40 cfw and from what I've read here (http://www.tortuga-cove.com/forums/view ... 127&t=4717), all I need to do is:

- Use Rogero Downgrader.PUP, which will downgrade to 3.55 CFW
- Toggle QA Flag
- Upgrade to Rogero 3.55 v3.7
- Upgrade to Rogero 4.40

This is all and nice, but I remember something about Dehashing when downgradng your console, but I don't quite get it. Is it necessary? And when do I do it? Thanks in advance.

no need to downgrade, just update (from thumb drive, with no disk in drive) from xmb or recovery menu.

I would upgrade to Rebug 4.30.2 rather than Rogero 4.40.

Are you sure about this? I always heard that was safer to downgrade first.

Yes I'm sure about this, it's actually safer not to downgrade.

Why is that? Is it possible to play online ? I was recently banned.

Because Rebug is the most solid CFW out there, it's reliable and stable from release and they don't release like 10 different versions to fix bugs. Rogero is OK once it becomes stable (after 10 or so versions), but 4.40 is still new and he's on v1.03 so far and I expect more versions and you wouldn't want to keep flashing your firmware whenever a new version is released to fix bugs!

Yes you can play online on Rebug, but as you said, you risk getting banned when you play online on any CFW including Rebug 4.30.2 and Rogero 4.40. There's no fool proof way to prevent getting banned, it's down to luck, but you should prevent running homebrew when online and no matter what, don't play Black Ops 2 online because this will definitely get you banned.

Anyways, here's a guide to install Rebug 4.30.2:

1- Make NOR/NAND dump (optional):
Install latest version of multiMAN, plug in a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive into the right USB port, launch multiMAN under Games and go to mmOS > Press [O] on any file > Open in HEX viewer > Press [SELECT] > Press [START] > Export GameOS LV2: Select No > Export HV LV1: Select No > Export FLASH: Select Yes

2- Install Rebug 4.30.2 from XMB:
Download Rebug 4.30.2 from Rebug's website, verify the md5 hash, rename the PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP and put it on your FAT32 formatted flash drive in PS3\UPDATE and go to System Update and Update via Storage Media. Make sure there's no original game disk in the drive and that you don't Update via Internet or else you would risk installing OFW higher than 3.55!

3- Install Rebug Update Package 0.1:
Download Rebug_Update_Package_0.1_4.30.x.pkg from Rebug's website, verify the md5 hash, install it from Package Manager, launch it under Games, follow the on screen prompts, the screen will freeze for a while when you press Yes, do NOT force shut down your PS3 at this stage or else you will get a nice and shiny RSOD! Just be patient and wait for it to finish what it's doing, it will reboot if needed when finished. Once the PS3 has rebooted you can delete Rebug Update Package from your XMB as it is not needed.

4- Enable QA and spoof to 4.40:
Install Rebug Toolbox from Package Manager, launch it under Games, go to Utilities and enable QA. This is to ensure easier and safer downgrading. Now go to Selector and change System Mode to Rebug, this will spoof to 4.40 to prevent accidental updates and allow PSN access. You can also change XMB Operation Mode to Retail and Debug Menu Type to CEX QA to ensure you have the Retail menus instead of the Debug menus which you probably won't need.

I see. I may try the rebug then. I like the idea of spoofing higher firmwares instead of flashing my NOR. I only found rebug 4.30.1 here http://www.ps3news.com/ps3-cfw-mfw/rebu ... ns-arrive/ (is it trustable?)

Also, will all my already installed psn titles and backups from multiman work out of the box, or will I have to resign them or something? With rebug 4.30.2, will I be able to run backups and PSN titles that require firmware higher than 4.30? Thanks for all the help.

4.30.1 is the first release of Rebug 4.30, 4.30.2 is the 2nd release which has more features, so it's better to go with Rebug 4.30.2. You can download it from Rebug's website www.rebug.me

If you are already on 4.xx CFW (you say you are on Rogero 4.30), then everything would still work as it was without the need to resign. You would only need to resign if upgrading from 3.55 CFW to 4.xx CFW.

All games work on Rebug 4.30.2 including those which require firmware higher than 4.30.

I see. Im going with rebug then. Anyway, I made a dump and validated using this guide: http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Validating_flash_dumps

Anyway, everything seemed fine, but when I used BwE (http://betterwayelectronics.com/files/B ... idator.rar), it showed me 2 dangers.

Am i to be worried? Does BwE works on Rogero 4.30 (my current CFW) ? Thanks in advance.
