Yes, but only if your PS3 is able to downgrade to 3.55.
If you cant, then theres something called the "Three Muskateers Patch", but I dont know about that.

So there is hope but it'll take a long while maybe if I manage to get a cfw on my PS3 I can play gamecube games.

You may as well buy a Gamecube and a flasher for ps3. :p

true, a gamecube is only about 20€, and the modchip about 10€, and it's pretty easy to install, if you need the diagram I have a very good one

there's something that has stopped me from downgrading my console, do you have to fully take apart the motherboard? cause I really don't wan't to mess with the thermal paste

Theres no need to replace the thermal paste, as long as you dont touch it.
Ive taken my PS3 apart like 3 times, and never needed to replace the thremal paste
The E3 Flasher has a clip that goes on the flash chip, its really easy.

I know that, but sometimes the thermal compound is really tied to the motherboard and the heat sink, making it really hard to separate them, I've had a friend who used brute force to do it, it seems he weakened the solder points bellow the RSX/CBE cause he got a ylod soon after that. I wanted to laugh so hard at his face, but the death of a BC Ps3 is no laughing matter

I never faced that problem. On my PS3, it wasnt hard at all to seperate them

then it's bad quality thermal paste, I've worked with artic silver thermal paste and it sticks into it like f-ing glue, maybe it's dependent on the brand or something

It was the original thermal paste because it was the first time that PS3 was ever opened
