The Super Slim has two models; CECH-40xxA and CECH-40xxB. The Firmware both these models were shipped with is 4.11, so no, you can not hack your PS3 Super Slim. You require a PS3 that is either on, or capable of being downgraded to 3.55. So your best bet is to get a FAT or a Slim that was made in 2010.

Well, think of it like PSP Custom Firmware (assuming you're familiar with the PSP Scene). Basically, Rogero's 4.30 is a custom version of the 4.30 official firmware. The problem with the PS3 however is that after the stuff with GeoHot and all the hacking on 3.55 FW, Sony placed encryption keys on the Firmware that nobody from Sony has leaked (as far as I am aware that is the only way we'd be able to get a hold of them since the encryption method is unknown). Anyhow, to get onto CFW on the PS3 you need to be on 3.55 due to the vulnerabilities and lack of the aforementioned encryption. From there you can upgrade to a higher CFW.

it is possible to hack you super slim ps3
but it requires a flashing tool and a hack called the three musketeers patch

if you can not use a soldering tool then do not try it as you will brick the console permanently if not done properly
also sense this requires you to open the system, it voids all warranties for sony

hope this helps you search for a way to hack your systems

you wont find much info on this hack on /talk because most of the users dont like the expensive & risky physical hacking of a console over the free & non-risky software method

As far as I was aware the Three Musketeers Patch required a console that had 3.56. I've not looked into it for quite some time so it wouldn't surprise me if it were possible now, but as you say; it requires soldering. While it is a possibility, I thought it better not to mention as the title gives the impression that the OP doesn't know much about the PS3 with regards to mods so I thought it better not to confuse things.

ive used it on 2 super slims and works for a direct install for most newer cfw

as for not telling him, thats dodging the question
price wise it would probably be out of his price range, as the flashing chips are about $90usd for the chip and can be as high as $130usd to have it installed by a professional
and that's not including the rest of the steps required for the hack

do a flash dump and hex edit it(don't forget to qa flag in this step as its the only way to do so on 3.56<) then re-flash the modified dump back to the console then it finally gits to the easy part of installing the cfw of your choice

reguto 4.30 and rebug 4.21(.02)rex installs just fine but other cfw's have to be installed after reguto or rebug as they can still show up as corrupted updates to the ofw

the chipping can be a big pain so take your sweet time on doing it properly(turn off your cell phone)
when cheacking my first board i had 2 wires connected wrong, luckily i hadn't tried to power anything yet

I see, I guess there have been developments that I've missed. Pretty interesting though as my friend was asking about his superslim the other day. Guess I'll go ahead and give it a go on his.

Yes and no. I didn't really want to give out false information and I haven't had much time to look into PS3 stuff lately, so I chose not to mention it for a few reasons really. The irony of course is that in not mentioning it; I did give out a degree of false information. Doesn't matter now though as it has been rectified.

Anyway, thanks for the update on the Three Musketeers Patch. I'll have to go have a bit of a tinker with some of my spares.

You can't. Anything you find on youtube, google, yahoo, etc (transamgrafx  ) is fake. Survey Scams.

You can't even downgrade a super slim because it don't have a base firmware of at least 3.55.
The only good thing about a super slim is you can play backup PS1 games by performing a hotswap!

Its on Youtube. Just search "PS3 Super Slim Hot Swap"
