Cool, thanks man. I actually just recently got my hands on a YLOD CECHA01, so I'm going to fix it up and see if it has anything lower than 3.55 on the motherboard. If it does, I'll just swap motherboards and install the CFW afterwards. If not, I'll just fix it up and sell it lol.

Anyways, thanks again!

if its been reflow-ed a few times, your looking at a reball project and those can git expensive and risky for bad reballing witch will kill the board permanently

a 3.55fw mb will cost you around $110usd on flea-bay
don't forget to make sure you git the matching daughter board if it goes south

I'm not familiar with the terminology just yet, so you'll have to forgive me if I seem a bit slow

What does "reflow" and "reball" mean? And Thanks for your help!

they are the usual repair method to fix the blinking red light of doom in ps3's

reflow is were you use a heat gun to heat the cpu ,gpu and ram chips on a motherboard to reset the solder *** connecting it to the board, when they crack and break ,the connection between the chips and the broad is broken

reballing is when you remove the cpu.gpu and ram chips from the motherboard and remove the old solder and replace it with better solder(usually with lead based solder) so that the connection to the mother board is more stable and not as likely to break or mess up again

reflowing can only be done 2 or 3 times before a reballing is required, but is usually cheaper, around $25-$55usd to have a shop do it

reballing is a much better repair(often permanently repairing the issue) but can cost above $95- $160 to have a shop do it

just dont try the hairdrier in the back of the system trick, it messes up the sata controle chip(hdd)

a reflow will take an hour total if you can disassemble the ps3 fast
thermal compound will run about $10
i suggest Arctic Cooling MX-4 thermal compound as it dosn't have a break-in period and is far better then arctic silver 5

here are some good resource sites to help
http://www.squidoo.com/3-tips-for-a-coo ... 1-cechg01-

and here is a great set of vids on how to do a reflow
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL92AD82CEE19E40C7
(i used a 2 stage heat gun from sears on low for 3 times as long over each part and at 1/4 inch, dont hover over one spot, keep the heat gun moving)
and eating thrifty maid noodles because of it......seriously!?! off brand noodles.....ouch i got burned by tech support.....ouch........
