Requirements:
- Official 3.55 Firmware (If you don't have one of the below CFW already)
- Geohot's 3.55 CFW patch OR Waninkoko's CFW OR Wutangrza's CFW + Geohot's OR Kmeaw's CFW
- USB storage device (Flash drive, Memory Stick, PSP, ect)
Choose which CFW you want to use. I suggest using Wutangrza's CFW + Geohot's patch, but it's ok to use Geohot's CFW by itself. However, if you are going to use Wutangrza's CFW, you'll need to install it first before Geohot' CFW.
Installing CFW:
- Installing Geohot's CFW
- Note: You must be on stock 3.55 OFW for PS3. This means you used an official Sony update. If you are using any other version of 3.55 (for example, KaKaRoTo's 3.55), then get the official 3.55 update and reinstall it. You can Google for that. Do NOT attempt to install Geohot's CFW over KaKaRoTo's, you may brick your PS3 if you do. With that said, I'm not responsible for what you do with your PS3.
Step 1: Make sure you are on v3.55
Step 2: Download Geohot's 3.55 CFW patch (Good luck finding it).
Step 3: On a USB storage device, create a folder named "PS3", and in that folder create a folder named "UPDATE". They must be capitalized.
Step 4: Place "PS3UPDAT.PUP" from the .zip file in the "UPDATE" folder.
So, it should look like this:
/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP
Step 5: Power on your PS3 and plug in your USB storage device.
Step 6: Navigate to [System Update] under [Settings] on your PS3. Select it.
Step 7: Select "Update via Storage Media"
It should say:
The following update data was found:
Version: 3.55-jb
Location: USB Device
Select "OK"
Step 8: READ THE USER AGREEMENT.
Step 9: Scroll over, accept the agreement and click "Start". Your PS3 will copy the patch to your PS3 and then start the update.
DO NOT PANIC
As this is a patch, not a full update, your screen will turn black and your PS3 will make weird beeping noises.
If your PS3 beeps 8 or 9 times, that patch was successful.
If your PS3 only beeps 3 times, it was unsuccessful.
Either way, Do not touch your PS3 until it shuts off completely.
Step 10: Power on your PS3 using the power button. If you see "Install Package Files" under [Game] on your XMB, congratulations, you now have a fully jailbroken 3.55 PS3
- Installing Wutangrza's CFW
- Note: You must be on stock 3.55 OFW for PS3 to begin the installation process. You may Google for the official update.
This CFW will enable you to run backups on your PS3 from a Backup Manager.
Step 1: Make sure you are on official 3.55
Step 2: Download Wutangrza's CFW PUP from PS3-hacks.com
Step 3: On your flash drive, memory stick, USB Storage device, ect create a folder named "PS3", then inside that folder create a folder "UPDATE", then place the PS3UPDAT.PUP in that folder. You should end up with /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP (all folders and files must be capitalized)
Step 4: On your PS3, go to [Settings] and click [System Update]. Select the option "Update via Storage Media" and continue through the options. It will copy the update to your PS3 and install it.
Step 5: After your PS3 restarts, install Geohot's CFW patch (Use the guide above but skip the first step)
Congratulations, you're one step closer to running backups. You'll need to use "LV2 Patcher" to run backups (see the instructions in the "Applications" section below)
This is pretty simple.
- Place the ".pkg" file of the homebrew you want to install in the root of a USB storage device and plug in to your PS3.
- Navigate to "Install Package Files" on your PS3 (If it's not on your PS3, you probably didn't read the beginning of the post
- Select the homebrew .pkg you want to install & it should show up under [Game]
- Hiding Your Homebrew
- Afraid Sony might catch you playing homebrew? Want to avoid your friends asking you millions of questions about what you're playing? Here's a little tutorial by clankfan1 (Thanks Phillyphries for sharing!):
I'll add to it a bit myself: This works for all homebrew. Simply replace the param.sfo for the homebrew you want to spoof. Even though the guide mentions blackb0x FTP, it's easy to understand how to do it for other homebrewDOWNLOAD PARAM.SFO:
http://www.mediafire.com/?cbp4sluauxikpq2
What it does:
-It adds Call of Duty: Black Ops to you boot_history.dat so that the FTP server doesn't show up.
-It shows you are playing Call of Duty: Black Ops to your friends and Sony if you are signed in.
-Prevents you from being banned by Sony.
-Allows you to play homebrew without logging off.
-Works on all firmware!
How to install:
-The tutorial is only long because I went in depth...
-Download and Save As the PARAM.SFO file to a location where you can find it.
-Run the already installed BlackB0x FTP Server v1.2 on your PS3 while your are SIGNED OFF!
-Open up the FTP Server of your choice that supports BlackB0x on your computer.
-Now copy the PARAM.SFO file to /dev_hdd0/game/BB0011111
-A message should pop-up asking if you would like to overwrite click YES.
-Now while still on the FTP server we will clear the boot_history.dat so Sony can't ban you for running homebrew that you've done in the past.
-Navigate back to /dev_hdd0 now open the home folder (You should be in /dev_hdd0/home now)
-Now there should be folders with several zeros and a number at the end.
-If there is only one folder you can skip this step, otherwise you can check what folder is what user by opening the localusername file in each folder until you see the user that matches your PSN account. (Please note that the user and PSN account name are different!)
-Once you have found the right user open the folder called etc (You should now be in something that looks close to /dev_hdd0/home/00000001/etc)
-Copy the boot_history.dat file to your computer and open it with your favorite text editing program. (Such as notepad)
-Highlight all of the text in the file or press Ctrl+a and then delete it.
-Now save your file with the same name or press Ctrl+s in most programs.
-Now copy the boot_history.dat file on your computer to the same location boot_history.dat was on the FTP Server and overwrite again.
-Now exit the FTP server on your PS3 by pressing X and turn off your PS3.
-Turn on your PS3 and find the FTP icon under game, if the text to the right of the icon says Call of Duty: Black Ops you've done it correctly but if it doesn't do all the steps again or ask for help.
Hope this helps calm down your worrying!

- On first run, it'll create folders. These are located in dev_hdd0/game/PCSX00001/

- You must include a PSX BIOS named SCPH1001.BIN in dev_hdd0/game/PCSX00001/bios/. Google for it, as it is illegal for me to provide it.
- In order for PS3SX to run on 3.55 properly, you must go to the settings (Press O) and set "Use CPU interpreter" to "Yes"
