Got a ps3 and Game but game wont work

got a pre-owned slim ps3, also got burnout paradise, downloaded like a gig of updates for the game, but when i put the disc in it starts up, loads up the games, plays background music etc then when it tries to create a profile for me the background music stops and the game gets stuck in an infinite loop of trying to save the save data. there are still animations moving on the screen but it never stops. left it on for an hour and it still hadnt finished. quit game, checked save data and all there was was corrupted data at 273kb in size. is this just the game scr..ing up or what?

Try deleting the update data and just running the game clean. No updates, no install data (well, unless its required to install,) and see how it runs.
If it has install data, try installing it before patching the game/installing DLC. I've had errors patching games before installing system data before.
Also try redownloading the update/DLC data. Again, I've had files download incorrectly myself on a few games. (Seems to happen alot on large DLC files.)

okay, i didnt actually check that reply till now, ill admit, but i made a little prgress, i turned off all network connections and it all worked fine, saved the profile data, all loaded up and started playing. then after about 5 minutes of gameplay The whole game froze instantly. and the ps3, had to hold the power button for like 20 seconds or something to turn off. its a real pain in the ***, why cant things just work!

Your not alone with the freezing problem. It happens a lot with the Phat PS3 in here. It could be hardware degradation, well maybe with this one at least.

Have you tried going into the recovery menu and doing a defrag? I know with my ps3 I've had to do it a couple times, once for lag issues (my controller had lag somehow, even scrolling through the xmb..) and once for save issues

i went to the recovery and rebuilt the database but that didnt work ill try that one.

Hi @garrei,
I don't know if you got it sorted, but do you think it might be the laser or hard drive?
I have changed lots of lasers when the fault was freezing games e.t.c.
It could also be a bad hdd? Swap it out for another you might have lying around and see if the game runs smooth. As you said that it froze on save data screen and running a game, I'd put money on it being a hdd issue.

Hey thanks for the input but i just returned it saying it was faulty, and they gave me another one and it all works fine thanks anyways.
