Postby Nightsail » Fri Nov 25, 2011 8:29 am

Enter another newb, stage right!

I'm still playing catch-up on adding in all the previous posts' translation contributions to the translation file, so I can see what's left to be done, but I found something I think I can point out safely enough.

Line !x08839EEC, "maximum" is spelled "maximun" and it might sound better just to say "You'd have too many." instead, wouldn't it? I'm PRETTY sure that this line is in reply to trying to buy more than 9/9 of something. Also, 0x08C43FD8 should say "lose" instead of "lost" I do believe. :)

I'm currently going through the menu png files, to translate what I can on those, which admittedly isn't much... found a few things so far, though! I'm curious as to what font you're using for those pics, though. I've got Bitstream Vera Sans, which looks close to yours, but it's still different.... and does it have to be saved as an indexed png, or will an RGB one work too? (guess I'll find out in a min either way, haha.)

Also, any tips on how to find what offsets to use, if I find strings I want to translate, that aren't already in the translation source file? Like the text, "DIVAルームイベント" which should be "Diva Room Event"? And "メインキャラクターがHAPPY" and "サブキャラクターがGOOD" which are "HAPPY main character" and "GOOD support character" respectively....

Thank you for this most awesome project! You totally rule!

Edit: got my PNG file to work, but my .bin doesn't want to. The compilation utility gave me that Windows error saying it encountered an error and had to close, and the output file seems to crash the game -- it just won't load with it. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone, first time poster. I'm also having issues getting the plugin to work, as I can't even see the plugin in the recovery menu of the CFW and it won't load on gamestartup. I'm thinking I might have screwed up in copying the files perhaps, but I don't know where I screwed up, so I'll just attach screenshots so someone can point something out. I'm using the 6.60 b10 temp loader btw.

Stupid guestions: Does it calculate western letters same size as kanji ones (I remember Kanji's taking more space than regular letters)? Maybe they intended that so lyrics actually fit on screen? Could it be possible to split lyrics and add more timing rules on songs? I dunno :?

Also your plugin seems to be most awesome thing in whole translating scene. Everyone is translating this in multiple languages! This should be the future like you said :D

Just checked it, they raised the limit to 50 chars but still is too litle, in some translated lyrics it reaches 60-65 characters. Anyway, when i finish a good chunk of the edit mode i will look into the lyrics again.

Thank you! I may translate this to Finnish when English one is near 100% minimizing errors.
Also I suggest co-operating with Diva Wiki when translating lyrics. Some lyrics are already translated and some needs translating ;)

Does menu icon on upper left corner look kinda differend than original? original seemed to have some transparency while new one is only white. You can compare them with 0.2 when switching main menu and song select.

fixed.

Nightsail wrote: and it might sound better just to say "You'd have too many." instead, wouldn't it? I'm PRETTY sure that this line is in reply to trying to buy more than 9/9 of something.

100% right, i had that one before, but sadly is too long and the text goes out of the box and looks bad so i went with "maximum" :(
Nightsail wrote: Also, 0x08C43FD8 should say "lose" instead of "lost" I do believe. :)

Fixed too (but did the commit before i read this so isn't online).

Nightsail wrote:I'm currently going through the menu png files, to translate what I can on those, which admittedly isn't much... found a few things so far, though! For the small letters i am using Monospace (and the bold variant), and for the splash screens and top bars i am using the Berkelium font. Yes, the images needs to be indexed, RGB won't work, but there is something important: if you work with the images as is you will lose the transparency since almost all the editors doesn't handle the transparency very good with 8bit png files (not even gimp/photoshop). I recommend to put the image in RGB more before doing anything so it shows the correct transparency levels, then export it . Then you need a png quantizer to convert the RGBA to indexed and you won't lose the transpacency levels (i used pngnq). Don't use the images from the 0.2 patch since i omitted that and lost the transparency (the images from the upcoming 0.3 have this problem fixed).

If you want send me a PM and i will send you the xcf source files (gimp native format with info of layers) so you can edit the text directly.

Those are titles, right? anyway, for finding the offsets you will need some mips knowledge since you will need to dissasemble the eboot. Its pretty complicated so thats why i am not looking for help on this one. If you still want to get the offsets by yourself then contact me on jabber since it will be too lenghly to write it down in a post.

I will fix the converter crash for 0.3 (thankfully the crash happens afthe the bin file is created so it must be a silly windows-only error). For the bin file generated with the newer txt file you need the new plugin since i changed the meaning of the "^" marker and added a "$" marker. COmpile it yourself from the source code in github or wait until this weekend when i release 0.3.

@marioysikax: i know, i didn't noticed that the image lost the transparency. It will be fixed for 0.3.

@dantemustdie1031: it works with cso too. And yes, you will need to replace the plugin too when 0.3 comes out (i made some changes).

edit: thx again naki-the-curious, adding your translations right now. Thx to kienono too but some of your string are too large so they go out of the dialog borders and look bad. For example the BPM explanation needs some rewording because the max characters per line are 49-50 (add more and the text will go out of the dialog).
