Persona 2: Eternal Punishment translation

Post by Arizato » Sat May 25, 2013 1:04 pm

Hello!

I've been thinking about making a translation project for Persona 2 Eternal Punishment for the PSP, since it contains some stuff that the original game doesn't have. I got some help from another guy who extracted the contents of the game but there is some kind of encryption that prevents us from going further. Is there anyone here that has experience with this sort of stuff?

- Do not open a new topic just to request people to sign homebrews for you, or to code this or that (homebrew, plugin,...) for you.

Not programming-related, moving to /PSP/Games.

On-topic: short of reverse-engineering the game and how it loads the data, nothing comes to mind. How do you know it's encrypted?

Quote from him:
"it would be a pleasure helping you translate the game, i already unpacked the game files, but the text files are encrypted/compressed somehow, i don't know that header"

That's all I know. Current ripping my own copy to extract the files and see for myself.

Extracted the CPK file and only got a lot of BIN and BNP files as well as a few GIM files.

Can't make any sense out of most of the files in a hex editor, except for some of them reading stuff like: "et_ic00x.tga Suzuki Wed Aug 03 20:56:37 2011 GimConv 1:50 MIG.00.1PSP" and stuff like that. The rest i mostly gibberish which makes me assume that it is encrypted somehow.
