Save Data suddenly Unreadable.

So here's the deal. Me and 2 of my friends were playing Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. Suddenly, my friends screen turned black near the beginning of the mission. It was weird because he could still hear sound and then his PSP crashed(turned off) when he turned it back on, for some reason the game couldn't detect his save data anymore.

But it was not corrupted. Any thoughts?

Hmm, what firmware was he on? I've never heard of any situation like this, or at least, I don't remember any.
